    In your opinion, has any movie remake ever been better than the original movie or book?

    I still go back to The Notebook, I love the movie and don't care for the book as much.  Just wondering if you think that any remakes have surpassed their original counterparts.

    Forrest Gump was much better as a movie than as a book.

    It seems to me the best remakes are remakes of movies that weren't very famous to begin with like The Taking of Pelham 123, and 3:10 to Yuma.  Remakes of The Manchurian Candidate, Psycho, and Sabrina — not so much.

    The Shawshank Redemption is better than Stephen King's novella.

    I love John Carpenter's The Thing and, although I've never seen the original, I've read it's way better. Same with Cronenberg's The Fly.

    Also, Dawn of the Dead is a horror classic, but I enjoyed Zack Snyder's take on the recent remake. Not better than the original, but up there.
