Is there a possible conspiracy against the use of corporal punishment towards children?
Is it possible that pharmaceutical companies may be driving research which opposes the use of corporal punishment?
This seems like a pretty far-fetched idea as far as I'm concerned. People who understand child development know that it is completely possible, and far more desirable, to raise well behaved children without hitting them.
People who had parents who knew how to raise well behaved kids without hitting them or yelling at them tend to grow up with the same parenting skill. People who had parents who didn't know how to do that often believe that the only way to "get kids to behave" is to hit them.
I'd venture to guess that for every kid who "acts up" and is seen as candidate for medication, because he has parents who don't know how to set limits; there are others who act up because they have parents who yell or hit so often the kids learn to tune them up and "just do whatever".

Is corporal punishment (spanking/hitting) ever appropriate as a parenting strategy? Is it ever ok or useful to hit your kids? If so, why? If not, why not? The bible indicates that the rod should not be spared, and some parenting research shows that an immediately delivered, slight spank, can...
