   Are you close to your mom?  It could be you have a sense of loss of control.  Your mom being shot while holding your hand could represent fear that you don't have the control to protect your loved ones.  Just a guess.

   People in our dreams often represent aspects of ourselves. Your mother might represent your conscience or higher self, the part of you that provides discipline but also love and acceptance.  Mothers also represents feelings of security and protection - so her being shot could also mean you fear loss of stability or lack of support in your life as well.  All the other elements would have to be explored also and compared to what is going on in your life to say for sure.

   When and where did this take place?
   Who was the shooter?
   Does she die?
   Why is she holding your hand?
   Are you two just walking along or is she trying to hold your hand to keep you from going somewhere?
   What was your reaction to this shooting?
   
   Here is my interpretation based on the limited info provided:
   
   You may have a fear of your mother's support ending. Something or someone may "target" her and prevent her from continuing to be by your side during your life journey. It could be an illness or accident. It doesn't always point to a waking life death though. It could mean that something will stop her from supporting you in life.
   
   Are you afraid that she may not be able to agree with a lifestyle choice you're making? Or will she face social opposition if she does?

   I would say it means you had a really bad dream. 
   
   I have nightmares about losing my mom and for me, it stems simply from my fear of losing her.  She is my hero.

   I think its trying to tell you something about your relationship with your mother. When I was at upper school, I drempt my mum had died and I was very upset when I woke up. I had never been particulaly close to my mum so it was a surprising reaction.
