Really it depends on the restaurant, the mood, the occasion and so on. If I am going to a nice Italian place I will usually order a Marsala dish. At a steakhouse it will obviosly have to be either a prime rib and aus jus or a nice porterhouse steak. In a fish house definately going to be crab, shrimp, and lobster.
I agree with dorothy0328...it depends on the restaurant, but I do try to have something that I've either never had before or something that I can't make at home. If that's not possible then I just order my favorite thing that they have on their menu!

If a restaurant gets your food wrong what do you do?Do you take it back and make them correct it, eat the food and forget about it, or just throw it away?
