After my work on HubPages, my blog plus a whole lot of tweeting and twitpic'ing I have been approached by the editor of Rock Climbing UK to be a contributor, making this my first (albeit unpaid) online publishing 'job'

I just submitted my first post which will be published shortly, my profile can be found here:

A word of warning, there are plenty of blog owners who search for free writers on their site so they don't have to write themselves.

I would at least ask for some kind of revenue sharing option.

I have seen a few people end up writing for free for months, without ever getting a penny from website owners who promised some kind of benefits when things pick up.

On sites I own where I accept other authors I always offer at least a 50/50 revenue share option.

      far out! smile

if they ask you to become a regular contributor, that might be a good time to inquire about financial compensation of some sort. building a following on a visible site is good but you still need to protect your interests in the long run, including letting them know you have an interest in tangible rewards as well as intangible ones smile

      congratulations!

Thanks cosette, I will use that as my benchmark then - if it becomes a regular contribution.

        Really appreciate the advice!

Actually, I just had a look round the site and it doesn't seem to be monetised apart from selling climbing books - no adsense that I can see.
Maybe you should ask if you can use your Amazon affiliate there or something?

Hey izzy, the site is being overhaueld in a couple of weeks, amazon would be good I guess as I can incorporate that into my  articles - thanks!!

Cool a thesis user - share this code with him:

    .format_text .to_comments {visibility: hidden;}

(added to style sheet will remove the "comments on this entries are closed" text)

Congrats! I would push for more then Revshare though - see if he wants a partner instead - looks like your the only contributor besides the editor/owner?

    The facebook link doesnt work.

it's always wonderful to get work published, i wrote two articles and got them published in a dog magazine...... my name was splashed all over the place, and i was delighted, but they did not pay me either.

Now i write more for pleasure, i do  not agree with magazine using people though..... you should really be getting paid.  Maybe it will lead to something for you in the future.

The world seems to be full of wanna be writers at the moment, the editors have a huge choice at their fingertips.

    Very well done...
