I'm usually one to keep my opinions to myself (NOT!!!) But those parents that are out there defending the fact that their eight year old daughters are dancing/gyrating, dressed like hookers - all for the sake of a dance competition - need a good, swift, kick in the ass!!!

Obviously you haven't seen little miss sunshine. But, I agree with you.
There needs to be some kind of line drawn, to keep younger kids away from
this kind of exploitive garbage. We all know it's just to sell clothes, and makeup to a wider female audience.

If you want a good laugh, watch the episode of southpark, where the townspeople are all excited about the grand openning of Paris Hiltons
"Stupid Spoiled Whore." store. It's funny because it's sad but true.

I completely agree...Wendi M! Kids should be Kids.I don't want my daughter aspiring to be a pole dancer or self obsessed beauty queen. Our kids are future and it is up to us to teach them good values despite the current degenration of our culture. We can't protect our kids from all evil-but we sure can  teach them good values.

Totally agree with you there, i have 2 girls myself and would die of sheer embaressment if mine ever even thought about it.
As it stands my kids aren't allowed to watch any music videos at home or anywhere else for that matter as all the videos are all about sex, just like the cartoons (look at in the night garden, why does upsey daisys skirt go up to reveal her orange middle when she's having a sing song?), most programmes and adverts.
      Disgusting the lot of it!
Im wishing for the old days where sex was embaressing to talk about let alone watch openly, maybe that way the world would be a better place, young boys wouldn't be raping younger girls, and young children wouldn't be experimenting with adult things. But yet we're forced to pay for a tv license! and it's up again this year.

In a society that has an anything goes mentality , what else would you expect ? Modesty and old fashioned values are now seen as archaic, extremist and repressive. So this is an example of what is yet to come.

It seems to me that they are dancing like people on music videos.  I don't think it is really appropriate but more a lapse in judgement than anything.  There wasnlt a real intent IMHO to be sexual.

And we wonder why kids turn out doing bad things in later years, it's because we let these little things slide. it's like a silent [IT"S OK TO DO IT] consent.

      Nah sorry, not my girls!
If they ever did and i caught them their lives wouldn't be worth living!
I know i've installed very deep meaningful morals and principles within all my children so therefore that ain't a problem i'll be dealing with until their at least teenagers.

Remember that most young kids have no frame of reference about what is so "naughty" about this type of dancing.  The worst thing that you could do is to assume a child understands what she/he is doing when they are copying a dance move.  To them one dance move is the same as another.  The best thing to do is to be involved and just let them know which dance move looks "good" to you. ("Good" being age-appropriate.)

Simply reflects the lack of morallity society holds as a standard to live by. Lil girls are taught to be sluts who know they can get what they want, by use of thier bodies and sex.

You allow MTV to raise your children and then wonder when they raise thier children, with even less morals then yours were raiseds with.  Cause and consequence, domino effect.

Pretty soon. It is all spiraling down the drain. And anything goes. As long as it feels good, or you enjoy it. Who cares.

I'm not usually this fiesty about anything, but there's something seriously wrong in our society when parents won't allow their children to JUST be children.

    1. rebekahELLE profile image84

I don't know if they posted it, but the girls were in a dance competition in CA, the parents say it's typical dance style and outfits for a dance competition. I wouldn't call it so much stripper dancing, as typical pop diva dancing, Beyonce style.

it's over the edge for 8 & 9 year old girls. I think I was still playing with Barbie dolls at 8 years old and typical dance lessons, climbing trees...

google it and you'll see articles and video. radaronline has quotes from the parents.

I agree. I just put my 3 year old daughter in dance because she always walks on her tips and loves to twirl.  Recently we attended her first dance recital and oh my word!!!! - My husband and I both agreed - no way are we letting our little girl wear those skimpy clothes and dance like some hooker!  So this will be her first and last dance recital.  It's sad because we wanted her to learn ballet and enjoy it. - But it's not worth all the influence she would have.

I'm sure if you look around you could find a place where they teach traditional ballet classes, if you live in a large enough area.  I agree that it's sad for little girls who really want to learn traditional dance.  keep looking and good luck.  ballet is great for girls in so many ways.  to this day, I attribute my good posture to those early ballet lessons.

I have seen the video. Not the best choice but all in all it is still only dancing. I doubt these girls thought they were trying to be sexy.

Of course, like childrens beauty pageants it's the reaction they get from adult males that would be worrisome. The girls in this video did not look like 20 year-olds like most of the costumes and makeup girls wear for these beauty pageants.

I can't blame the kids....  The dance moves on Dance channels are so provocative and it's only natural that little girls want to dance like their idols - Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady gaga, Shakira.

Remember when we were young, we copied dance moves of the celebs we liked on TV. Well, I did. lol.  Sadly, since then those dance moves have changed into provocative moves and the kids of this generation are simply copying them.

Totally understand your point though. smile

From the number of comments at this website, news broadcasts, prisoners comments it would appear that in this country we believe freedom means, "freedom without responsibility." If the standards we set for ourselves are no standards at all provocative dancing at eight years old is only the tip of the iceberg. We cannot expect children to understand when adults say it is perfectly okay for me to do whatever the heck I want even if that conflicts with the concept of morality. If you believe dancing at 8 years old will be the furthest limit to how far we can test the limits of freedom-it won't be!

The youtube video has been taken off but said to be because of copyright issues.  I personally feel these girls are being exploited and if anyone sees it as entertainment, they need a lobotomy.  I cringed when I first saw it, these girls were more embarrassing, perhaps because of the sexual undercurrents they were trying to portray and at eleven they were not capable of it.  The parents who allowed these kids to do this need to be placed in a shame file and the organization who put it together publicly humiliated.  Bloody idiots.

  18. TMMason profile image61
    TMMasonposted 13 years ago

    Again.

When your children are raised with the MTV moral code for life. What do you think thier children's behaviour will be like?

    It is fairly simple reasoning.

You bring one generation up in the.. "If it feels good do it." morality. ie Humanism. Then that degradation of moral behaviour will not only influence strongly, but domino downwards with each successive generation.

So there is no one to blame but our, or yourselves. The mothers of these children are in thier 20s and early 30s. they were raised on MTV as where there daughters, and now thier grand-daughters.

    Wow.

    What a suprise.

Immorality is poison which destroys society.

Imagine that... Gee?... I thought some book I read once explained that in detail.... what was it's name?.... the bible or some such thing.

  20. FrankiesGirl6Yr profile image71

No, no not child abuse. These girls take dance very seriously. I danced for 12yrs and the way you win competitions is you stay  up to date with “popular” moves and styles. So if you are a competition team like these girls, them and their parents made a commitment to work hard and win....Instead of focusing on these kids, people should be getting pist off at Britany, Miley, and who ever else.

Sexy dancing is valid only if its ballroom dancing but if its like for strippers, hell no! Calling the parents please do supervise your daughters they might lure some sick in the head Aholes out there.

I remember being about 5 or 6 and I grabbed one of my dad's cigarettes and pretended to smoke it in front of my mom.  She got so angry with me. I was mortified.  I remember how it felt to not understand what I had done that was so offensive.  I remember feeling as if I had been treated unfairly, since I was just pretending to smoke and she didn't get mad at my dad for ACTUALLY SMOKING.  It is important to keep in mind what the child is doing and their grasp of the situation.

I agree with "no" or "limited" tv watching.  Sad thing is - you can't even watch the national news with your child (11 years old) in the room without being bombarded with erectile dysfunction commercials.  That's tough to explain.   Some of these television executives should be forced to watch suggestive dance videos, commercials, etc. with their children or grandchildren before they decide to put it out over the airwaves.
