I have just received a notice from facebook that my account has been shut down due to some suspicious activity.

This was their reply to my inquiry:

    "Hi Benjamin,

There were charges made on your account that have been charged back by the cardholder who has claimed that the charges were unauthorized. You will need to have the cardholder contact their credit card company and reverse the chargebacks he/she made for charges associated with our site. Unfortunately, we will not be able to reactivate your account until the chargebacks are reversed. When the chargebacks have been reversed, please let us know and we will be glad to reenable your account.

Please be also advised that we couldn't find any evidence of your account being hacked.

    Thanks for your understanding,

    Derek"

I'm asking for your help, how the mother do I get it back?

Were you purchasing some ads or something?  Why was Facebook
    charging you?
I think if you make a case that you didn't buy ads or make a purchase from them, that would be the first place I would start...
Also search the web for anyone who had a similar situation and resolved it (Facebook scams).

    Good luck!

I'm a little confused about this, but it looks like someone somewhere used your account to make charges using their own credit card. Does that sound right?  But it's also possible that the notification letter from FB is actually a phishing scheme.

I would first of all be sure that your inquiry to them went directly to the FB headquarters/offices; that is, do NOT click on a link in the notification you were sent.  That could be the way a hacker gets into someone's account.  Instead of clicking on a link, look up the "contact us" address for FB, and contact FB from the e-mail account that was associated with your original FB account.  It's difficult to do, as many Facebook users can verify.

In your place, I would probably contact FB once again (directly, not through any link) and let them know that there's no way to contact the credit card company without knowing what company it is and at least a name on the account.  How can you get that information?

Another option might be:  Maybe your account wasn't actually hacked, but could it have been left open at some point when a friend (or foe) was around, and they used it, maybe even without realizing they had not signed you out and signed in their own?

Other than that, it may be that your only immediate option would be to open a new FB account - a major bummer for you.  You can let FB know that they will be getting a lot of negative publicity from this, if it is not a scam.  (But I'm leaning more to the idea of it being a scam of some kind.)

Have you even gone to see if your facebook account is actually gone?

That looks like a phishing email trying to get you to contact them and give your credit card number so they can "verify" it by robbing you blind.

Go to facebook and see if your account has even been touched at all.  I bet it's fine. (Don't navigate to it by any links in the email... go to it via your browser or personal bookmark.)

I agree. Check whether your account still works. It all sounds a bit odd to me.

Yup, that is a bogus email. Facebook would never send you one like that. Go to your account and see that it's still there. smile
