Blog or Niche Website

   Ok hubbers I am blogging on Blogger and I am leaning towards making a niche website because I want to increase my earnings and traffic. It seems like websites get the traffic instead of the blogs. I have heard of niche websites and it seems popular.. I just don't know much about them.. What are they and how can I get one??

      Wait before you do all of that, i suggest using Google Adwords and testing a few campaigns and seeing if your ideas or different pieces of your ideas will work. You have to have a website with low competition and low yield and this should help your website to become slightly unique but then the content and traffic will have to be drawn in from decent sources that may gaurantee a frequent flow of traffic.

      A niche blog is just as effective as a niche website. It's that word "niche" that's important.
      
      If you just blog about any old thing, Google can't work out what your blog is about, so it won't get noticed.  If you concentrate on one subject, Google will know how to categorize your blog and it will do better.
      
      However, you also have to pick a subject ("niche") where there's not too much competition already, and that's the hard part.  The best way is to write Hubs on a variety of subjects and notice which ones are earning more money - then write your blog or website on your best money-making subject.

   I have been thinking about doing what I call micro sites. Using wordpress to create pages not posts (posts being more blog like) is how I would do it. A few pages on the niche or sub topics within that niche and maybe affiliate links to monatize it more then with ad sense ads. I have found a few products with click bank that might work for this idea, tho I did have to do a lot of searching to sort the decent stuff from the crappy looking stuff
   
   A niche is like a smaller market, say camping might be a niche, or with in that large topic cooking gear when camping would be a niche. The bigger picture topic with this type of niche would be something like 'outdoor activities' and that would be way to competitive for a small fish like me, but maybe going into cooking while camping gear might be something I could compete for.
   
   Have a good play with the google keyword tool and remember that you need to look at organic competition and the keyword tool only gives you advertiser competition not organic competition. For good detailed advice on finding and breaking into a niche I suggest you have a good long read of the many hubs on this. There is all kinds of advice and while sometimes there are conflicting tips this is down to the fact that what works for each of us will differ to some degree
