Spike in HP traffic to one of my hubs...

   How do I figure out why or where a spike in HP traffic to one of my hubs is suddenly coming from?  I'm not complaining, but it's curious, and I'm wondering if there's some sort of glitch or something.

   That happened to me the other day, too, and I never did figure out why.  My total traffic to all hubs about doubled from 40 to 80 and it was nearly all HP traffic to only 2 hubs.  Odd at the time, but went away the next day....

   Went from like 15 or so a day to 125. I'm mostly just curious.  But I have to say, it does drive me nuts when I get links from stuff like HP or Facebook or wherever and I can't get to the actual source of the link, only to a general domain.

   Thats great news though.
   
   You can go to your affiliate settings and click google analytics.
   It will show your top 5 hubs. If its not there click full report and look for it. Then click on the hub and scroll down to keyword entrance phrases. This will explain if something in the news has helped with a keyword you have.

      It has keyword entrances from search engines, but not from why I have traffic internally from HP.  It's like someone linked it in a hub (a really popular hub apparently to generate this much traffic lol). I wish I knew which one.

   Look at the traffic sources for that hub.  See where it's coming from.  One time I had a college message board where someone put a link to one of my hubs.  Everyone coming across it was clicking over to read it.  Just recently, someone had a milestone birthday that I had written a hub about which caused a lot of people to Google this person evidently and I was catching a lot of traffic that day.

   maybe it was a featured hub on HP home page.. even for a day, it brings in substantial traffic.

   I just reread things, I see now that you're seeing an increase in HubPages traffic rather than external.  So, my previous post is irrelevant to the situation...sorry.

               But, what difference does it actually make if you are not in it to make money, as your newly published hubs as stated. So, why care where the traffic comes from?

   I'm glad you're not stressing over it.  Perhaps it has something to do with holidays and/or when HP has to shut things down for repairs and updates and such.

    Install Google Analytics, it will show you a lot about your traffic.

       Thisisoli, dude, if I could make heads or tails of my Analytics I'd... I'd...  Well, I don't know what I'd do because I can't make sense of it.  I'm sure it's very nice, and whenever I want to impress people, I open it and have it on my desktop so they go, Ohh, impressive, what's all that?"  And I say, "It's Google Analytics.  It's very complicated, it would take me too long to explain."  Which is not technically a lie, because it would take me a long time to explain given that I would have to figure it out first.
       
       Len, I'll see if I can find an active list or archive or something. (I checked the newsletter archive). The fervor of curiosity may not outstrip the debilitating influence of sloth.

    Check to see if it was featured on one of the big headings that lots of people subscribe to.  Most things I write spend at least a week or two in the hot section of the sub-category I choose for the article.  Sometimes, though, it will get listed one one of the main headings. That's when the Hubpage views really go up.
    
    For instance, I wrote something that got sub-categorized in Horror Movies but after a week or two it ended up getting on a list in the much more active Entertainment category and brought a steady stream of 150+ Hubpages views a day.
