I love reading about traveling - what if there was a capsule for hotels similar to Amazon?  It might be interesting.  Would this added capsule take away from ad revenue or compliment it bringing in more ad dollars from the resort industry?

Hubpages is set up to allow people to advertise and earn money from a wide variety of topics, so I doubt they'd have a capsule purely for such a small niche.

However if you have your own site or write about hotels, you may be able to contact any hotels you write about to see if they would pay you a commission to send new customers to them.

A hotels capsule would be relevant to travel Hubs only.  If you look at other advertisers, they offer products which are applicable over a wide range of Hubs and that makes more sense.

Do you know of a travel company that offers an affiliate program upon which HubPages could build a capsule?  Because that's how the current affiliate capsules came into existence.

        That's another point.

There are several travel companies which offer affiliate programs but I haven't noticed any that do so directly - they all go through outfits like ShareASale or Commission Junction.

I can see the appeal though, as I have several travel hubs which I would really like to see hotel ads on, yet often they have ads for local photographers, even a locksmith and all manner of other things.

I think if HubPages was going to offer a special advertiser for a particular category of Hubs, it would have to have broad coverage - so rather than a "hotels" capsule, it would need to be a travel company offering flights, hotels, cruises etc.

The trouble is, though, that if travel writers got their own special advertiser, other writers would be whinging that they don't have any special advertisers for their topics.  Can of worms, if you ask me!

        Marisa,

You bring up an excellent point - who and when.  IF the affiliate were as large as Expedia with multiple travel ads - might this help?

        http://www.expediaaffiliate.com

Travel is such as huge industry - the dollars are large - the rentals, the hotels, the destinations.

I just see this segment underutilized and under advertised.

I have a few travel hubs and often the google ads are for hotels, especially the Paris hubs.

You are right - we went astray - the topic should have been more correctly detailed as "travel" - the car rental the resorts, the museums - I "mis wrote/posted" - I apologize.

If Hubpages would consider a travel affiliate module, then DevHub (Check out my profile for affiliate link if you are interested :p) would be a good place to start looking for ideas. They let you build hotel, car rental, and flights modules.
