Just A thought to create a forum signature could be a nice touch.

    Any thoughts?.

Great idea - this is common for emails - why not here?

most users seem to prefer the cleaner, no promo approach here

sigs open up the forum to flashy, sparkly images and spammy links.

I like sigs and would be pro-sig if it was limited to one link / no images.

But i dont think it fits the climate here

It gets in the way. This isn't a regular forum, and a signature would be too much. It's been asked many times, and it's always a 'no.'

Nope not for it. I would like the HP staff to stay focused on more productive matters.

Sometimes I think that the forums waste too much of their time as it is. Every little thing, just seems like it's there for someone to abuse or push to the limits.

Unproductive and spammy.  Besides, you have a link to your profile with every forum post (via your user name).  Other info is better off there, as there's way less clutter and nonsense that way.

Plus I think I read somewhere that signatures in the forums are a violation of HP rules.

This has been discussed a couple of times before, and in general it is shot down pretty quickly.

So, why do some people as the OP believe a sig would be a "nice touch?"

Honestly I don't get sigs. We can have a picture and name. Why do we need a slogan as well?

Is it another need for personalization? An added way to express ourselves? Or just another way to say spam.

Spam pretty much, people like to add links to their signatures.  While it can add 'some' wealth, it is pretty much negligible.

I was surprised this place doesn’t have forum signatures. there is nothing wrong with promoting ones interests if one in a respectable manor. Signatures themselves aren’t spammy if done in a good way.

Sure.  But too many folks would use it to over promote junk.  You get a link and a picture automatically - that's enough.

Everywhere you look on almost any forum you will find a forum sig.

Hubpages is different and I hope it stays that way.  It is nice to be a part of a nice clean forum without links all over the place.

There are plenty of ways to promote using Hubpages so lets not messy it up with forum sigs

I've used forum sigs effectively on some sites. Though I'm thankful we don't have it here.

Because even though I like to keep my sigs short and sweet, there will always be someone who goes too far. So that would mean extra work for the moderators.

I've been to some forums where a sig takes up two pages worth of screen. It was absolutely ridiculous. Most of your scrolling in any given thread is because of the sigs.
