      You mean fancy dress....I love it!!! I once wore a skin coloured wet suit and then strapped an inflatable lady doll to my back for a party once...it was great fun! gotta tell you though I was drunk as a skunk!

      It is true. But as such, we know that our dresses appreciate by others. We can choose, but the recognition comes from others.

      It is more than fine with me. If you don't like the idea or don't want to dress up don't go. But most of the time you don't have to dress up and you can go anyway, which is just as fun to see people dress up.

   i am not mad into parties, or dressing up or dressing down.
   
   However i always enjoy looking at pictures of friends that have attended fancy dress parties, it is interesting to see how they choose to dress, and who they become.
   
   I had a princess party for  little girls recently, they all loved dressing in their fairy tale dresses. Something i would have hated to do as a child.

   There's nothing worse than turning up for a party inappropriately dressed.
   Fancy dress can be interesting. I usually go as a twentie's flapper.

                        No - the gypsy outfit suits me so well, people tell me I should wear it all the time. One problem at fancy dress parties could be that I use Johnny Depp style eyeliner with the costume ... maybe I should stop doing that.
                        
                        The party is at Shadesbreath place. I haven't been invited yet, but I'll go anyway ... see you there!

                           Not to bring everyone down, but dressing like a "gypsy" isn't the same as dressing like a cowboy.
                           
                           It's closer to dressing like a Frenchman. The Romany people, from what I understand, generally don't like being called "gypsies" (which by the way, derives from a mistaken belief that the Romany people originally come from Egypt.
                           
                           I'm sure nobody means to offend anybody when they wear such a costume, but it does carry a certain baggage with it.

                              You mean because Romanies are an ethnic group?
                              Well, the Biba fashion was inspired by their look.
                              Apart from that, people dress as Red Indians, Frenchmen (beret, striped t-shirt, curled moustache and baguette in hand), Englishmen (pin-striped suit, bowler hat and cane umbrella), as well as nuns, vicars and whatever else people could (if they wanted to) take offence to.

   It's one of those things that's fun to do if you don't do it all the time.  We have Renaissance parties every so often.  I've been kicking around the idea of having a 70's disco party one of these days.

         No uniforms, no "Dress Code" but a theme is cool, and comliance with the theme allows entry. But imagine      having a dress code at a party, you show up to find out that it's the rear gaurd  of the Heaven's Gate cult.

   As a child I was made to go to a fancy dress as a tree. There was a bird's nest on my head, and I had to keep my arms 'branched out' throughout ... it wasn't a good experience, even if I did win the competition for best costume.

   I love dress codes.  It sets the tone of the party.  I'd really want to know if something is black tie and not just dressy or if something is hayride casual not business casual.  You know?  And themes are great.  Maybe I'm mixing up the word party with affair.

   I see no reasons for a dress code, except it's a theme party. I think you shall wear what you want, if you want to dress up your self or your children, do it.
