   In this new era where hip hop and other forms of music have gained huge popularity rock music has lost its fanbase and its sheen? Do u really think rock music has died?

      Both Hip Hop and Rock are dead.
      
      Hip Hop is dead, but remember, Wu Tang is forever ;-)
      
      Great artists and groups like Wu Tang, Nas, Heiroglyphics, Deltron 3030, Jurassic 5, Gravediggaz, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Biggie, Pac, etc...that was true hip hop. Amazing poetry, delivery and flow. Nowadays its nonsense. I'm not even going to get into it. I'll probably give myself a nose bleed if I do.
      
      As for rock, every band sounds exactly the same. It's ridiculous. There are so few bands out there with actual talent anymore. It's all just the same formula over and over again, just like pop music. Heavy Metal is dying too. Fortunately not as fast though. 
      
      No longer do musicians make music for the sake of making good music. All anyone cares about anymore is making money. Music is an art and it has been destroyed by greed and consumerism. It's honestly very tragic.
      
      The only positive thing I can say about this topic is that the bands and artists that actually are still keeping music alive in its purest sense are not in it for the money and are not mainstream. Hopefully in time the underground bands will outnumber the mainstream ones. It does seem like more and more people are becoming aware of how shitty the music has become in recent years. We need some kind of revolution. We need Jon Stewart or Steven Colbert to get on board with this.
      
      It's a damn shame when Justin Bieber gets 300 million hits on YouTube and a classic song like Going to California by LedZep only has a little over a million views with all of the separate videos combined!

         We are still kicking. However, hip hop musicality, not just rap, is pretty popular. Still, it is light, like disco. At some point it can't rule. But rock is getting a little too heavy and crazy. That could be the death of it. Naw.

   Rock Music was first pronounced dead fifty years ago, when folk music started becoming popular.  Since then, people haven't stopped declaring the genre's demise, though to date it hasn't obliged.

   Clearly rock music is less popular generally. There are only a few emotions that can be screamed down a microphone and stomped out.
   
   Hiphop etc was almost interesting, rap music is poetry for the educationally challenged, punk was, well, punky and pop is for kids.
   
   I love it all - equally and in silence.

   I think there's a lot of generic, trashy bands about in every genre nowadays, so I'd say that in one sense many genres are dying, not just rock. Or maybe it's the case that people's appreciation of original, meaningful music is dying?
   
   It's often quite easy to predict what's going to happen next on most songs when you're listening to the radio. I really think that this is the bad side of most genres nowadays; there's rarely anything stimulating and fresh that's released.
   
   Also, perhaps it's just to do with media attention that certain genres get over others?
