Need a serious boost in traffic (unconventional and conventional ways)

   I have not achieved my goal with my hubs. I thought at this point my traffic would be doing better. I have sent approx. 5-8 back links to 90% of the hubs and used shetoldme.com. I have also been pinging my hubs when I update content.
   
   Obviously some of my hubs need to be monetized better. I have certain hubs that get 50+ or will get 10-20 views a day. On the other hand I have ones that need to be worked on. Perhaps my key words are wrong or my tags are not good cause some are consistently getting 0-1 views. These need to be addressed.
   
   Any advice to get a serious boost in traffic other than the things I have already done would be greatly appreciated.
   
   My goal is to get 1000 page impressions per day. My actual hubpages views are 2.0-2.5 higher than my adsense.
   
   Creating more hubs will not fix the problems of some of the lower performing hubs. I feel that those lower ones definitely need to be addressed

   Everything starts with keyword selection. Let's take your "What To Look For in a Computer" hub. I assume that's also your keyword, because your keyword really needs to be in your URL and title and if it's not, all bets are off.
   
   I looked up that keyword in Google's keyword tool, and if you got 100% of the traffic for that keyword, it would amount to 5 to 6 visits per day. And it's pretty unrealistic to think that you will get 100% of the traffic for any keyword.
   
   On your "Are Netbook Computers Worth It," I assume your keyword is "netbook computers." That keyword gets significantly more traffic, but look at the page 1 competition. You'd have to beat out Dell, Wikipedia, Target, Hewlett Packard, Amazon, et.al. to be on page 1. It is doable if you had a small website, but it would take a whole lot of promotion to get onto page 1 with one single hub/page.
   
   So I guess I have no real advice for you other than to be more careful about selecting keywords going forward.

      Thanks for the information. I know keyword is where my main downfall is cause I have hubs that get a lot of success and I see it in the hub statistics of what people are searching for....

      A really useful piece of advice here. However, I would like to add that you must try "Market Samurai" for keyword research because it makes keyword research really easy.

      I am on page 1 and in the first position on that page with google of my 1 unpublished hub with no promotion on my part. You need to just write quality hub and be patient. This is what I am doing with my 1 unpublished hub. So it can be done to be on page 1 and also number 1 on the list of page 1 like I am. I hope that it helps you in someway. Thank you.

   I agree with Lrohner.
   
   I would add that you need to focus on long string phrases, rather than long titles with short keyword phrases incorporated. I have also had success with utilising a short keyword phrase and a long one.
   
   So how about, instead of "What To Look For In A Computer?".... something alone the lines of...
   
   "Computer Shopping: How To Choose A New Computer" I haven't actually used any keyword tools for that, but my instinct tells me that its got a fair bit more potential.

      Yeah I see what you mean. Those phrases might do better. If I change the title can it make a difference at all, even if I can not change the URL???
      
      My Exercise and Gaming niches must have good keywords and decent promotion cause they do well, its the other hubs that need attention.

   What I get confused about is are some keywords not needed if you already used them.
   
   would you need "season" as a keyword along with "season 1" or "changing season"
   
   OR do you always put both?

      I have no idea. For each keyword, you need to do some research (use Wordtracker or Google's keyword tool) to see what keyword gets more traffic. Then check out the competition.

      The way you have done it? No. Many hubs/webpages have a primary keyword and then secondary, tertiary, etc. keywords. But they are usually somewhat related.
      
      There are a host of problems with your self-improvement hub. If I can make a suggestion--go over to the Extreme Hub Makeover forum and post a link to the hub there and ask for help. You'll get a lot of feedback. Good luck!

   Thinking along these lines usually helps before deciding your url
   
   Niche:keyword
   Subniche:3 word longtail keyword
   Micro Niche: 5 word longtail keyword
   
   This usually covers more specific search results than just the one search option and enables you to be found on more specialised pages than just the main search page competing for 1 out of 10 million.
