      I think they are slowly buying the Kindle. It may be seen as a pricey items for those experiencing a financial crunch for now. I know it will catch on as soon as people understand the convenience it offers to people who want convenience  and organization in their lives. Great way to read as many books simultaneously without the bulk or pain.

   I hope it doesn't.   Bright lights shining in your eyes, for long periods of time, isn't good for the eyes.  The gentle 'white' pages of a book won't damage the eyes.

      Actually, stuff like the Kindle won't hurt your eyes at all.  The display doesn't have a backlight and is designed to look pretty much exactly like the pages of a book.  I have a different brand of ebook reader, and it really does look like reading a paperback.  No eyestrain at all, and variable font sizes so it is sometimes easier on my (bad) eyes than physical books.

   I love my Kindle, and I'm a hopeless book lover. I love the feel of books, etc but the Kindle is so easy to use and it's designed with no backlighting like a computer screen, actually those spending all day and night in front of a computer monitor give their eyes a harder time than a Kindle.
   
   
   it's much easier to hold if you like to read in bed. it also has a lot of great features besides the ability to download a book in less than 60 seconds. and the books are cheaper to buy and there are many free books.
   
   yes, in answer to the OP, people are buying them.

      The Kindle is also great when you fall asleep in the middle of reading, you don't lose your place. I think I have almost paid for my Kindle already with the money I have saved on books. I like how many are offered free for the first month.
      
      I'm reading the Autobiography of Mark Twain on my kindle. The physical version is over 600 pages so it would not be comfortable to read in bed and a lot of reviews complain about the small type. By the way, if Twain were alive today he would be all over the Kindle He loved technology.
      
      But, I still can get "real" books for half price at work and I take advantage of that

   I'm glad this post came up I am tossing around the idea of getting a kindle as opposed to other e-readers, I'd be interested to know people think of this  in comparrison to others that are on the market.
   
   Like what else do they do, I saw one once that had mobile internet, does the kindle?
   
   Just curious to what you get for the money.

         okay good to know, when they first came out I had a patient waiting in the waiting area at work I was amazed at here ability to carry it with her and have several volumes in that little gadget.  Being a person who loves books this would simplify thinks so much.

      The higher priced (189) version of the Kindle has always on mobile internet.  It even comes with a basic browser.  (Can you tell I kinda want one?)  The lower priced one has built in wifi but no always on connection.  If you buy your books from Amazon, the Kindle is awesome.  It doesn't have a lot of format support beyond the Amazon stuff, though you can convert anything non-drmed to Amazon's format easily enough.

   Was reading that they sold 'millions' this year. Anywhere from 5 to 8 million.  Even if they sold all the cheap ones, at 139 dollars, that's over a billion dollars worth!  That's not counting the ebooks they sold!
