   Young men and young women may obtain the highest earthly education, and yet may be ignorant of the first principle that would make them subjects of the kingdom of God. Human learning cannot qualify any one for the heavenly kingdom. The subjects of Christ's kingdom are not made thus by forms and ceremonies, or by long study of books. "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou has sent."

      Very true, Intelligence and wit is not is not enough. It's not only the young men and women, it's the middle aged and old as well. It' sad for anyone to think having high intelligence is all that matters to them.

            Not really. Many have been indoctrinated into their religions from childhood, have never gained the ability to think critically and are too lazy to do so. It is the religion that keeps them in this state and the weekly trips to church that reinforce the indoctrination. The religion teaches them to reject knowledge or anything that may jeopardize the indoctrination, so it makes it seem they are uneducated or stupid.

               I chose the Jewish religion as an adult. However, the Hebrew scripture does not say what the Christians believe it says.

      Human learning is useful to live in the world we live in. Since the world we live in is part of the kingdom of God I'm not sure what you are pointing to.

      You are right in one thing - it is the unintelligent and those who are unable to grasp anything much that follow religion - it replaces thinking, real care for humanity, real love, and allows the evil minds that control you to ferment war and division.
      
      Religion is as relevant to real life as an uncomfortable bowel movement.

         Perhaps it isn't so much about intelligence why people follow religion. Some people have to start somewhere. Not everyone has been fortunate enough to experience the ability to think or experience the love and care you are pointing to.
         If they find even an iota of love and care from religion be it from learned behaviour or learned ways of being that religion advocates, it may be the better alternative as opposed to enduring and experiencing forms of physical or mental abuse.
         
         It might be the only love they have known.
         
         People start wars not religion. Not necessarily the leaders either.

               Gladly guns are illegal in our country. Gosh and I have a hard time going fishing (so I don't) so I cant think what I would do with a hand gun if it was legal. I understand however what you are pointing to.  Is that USA's reputation? I learn something new everyday.  What actions are those?

            I would agree with some of this.  Religion is the place where some people can construct a meaningful life with support and a framewok for their thinking.   The issue I have is with the 'leaders' of these religions firing their followers off as cannon fodder - the simple minded folk who genuinely believe that their god made little wooden animals and an ark, just like the one they were given for xmas, but that the big daddy in the sky did it for real.   If religion is kept at home as a social system to live by then what harm does it do, it is when it provides the division and hatred that is used for wars and the disruption of society that it becomes an evil.

   One thing the wise know is that typing platitudes and obscure holy passages on the Internet is a great way to empty one's religion of dignity. 
   
   Internet preachers are more pathetic than the crazy, piss-stained guy on the corner waving his cardboard sign and shouting past the knits in his frizzy beard, "THE END IS NEAR."
   
   At least that guy is out in the real world proclaiming his faith to actual people.  How little effort can one possibly put in for God than tap-tap-tapping on a keyboard.  Don't even have to get out of your pajama's for that. 
   
   "Hey, look Jesus, I just spent 7 seconds on you.  Now I'm going to have another donut and watch some TV.  Man I love doing the Lord's work."
   
   Pretty sad, dude.
