   Why is 'Black Friday' said so? What's its relation with 'Thanks Giving' ceremony? What's the history of 'Thanks Giving' ceremony?

      Black Friday is a day where many real world shops mark down their prices drastically. It's also said to be the start of the big rush to buy Christmas items.
      
      Thanks giving is a celebration of thanks for a bountiful harvest, celebrated in the US and Canada..

   US -- fourth Thursday of November
   
   Canada - second Monday October
   
   Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving in the US - where the business owners are said to be "turning in black' - gaining profit because of bargains and discounted shopping. People rush to the shopping mall and fall in line before it opens as early as midnight Friday.

   What WryLilt and PDH said. Thanksgiving pretty much is the start to our winter holidays. It's a time of giving thanks and remembering our history going back to the pilgrims and Native Americans. Basically, it's all about a huge meal of turkey, stuffing, potatoes and pumpkin pie followed by an afternoon of watching football games -- American football.
   
   Since Thanksgiving is the most-traveled holiday in the US, a lot of families are together from out of state for a long, four-day weekend.
   
   While the guys sleep off their food and drink stupor on Friday, the women get up super-early and head off to the mall to start their Christmas shopping, family in tow. A few stragglers may stay behind to start baking cookies for Christmas.
   
   Since the malls traditionally are SO crowded the day after Thanksgiving, retailers try to get their best early Christmas deals out there for the bargain hunters. This draws even more people to the malls, and this vicious circle of bargains and bargain hunters begins. It's a total madhouse.
   
   The following Monday is called Cyber Monday because that's when all of the families formally finish celebrating Thanksgiving, go home and start their online shopping.
