YOU forgot - we actually had a budget surplus when Bush took office.

Bush slashed taxes for the rich and took the country into two unfunded wars with NO EXIT STRATEGY.

Then Bush policies in support of big business brought the economy to ruins in the year BEFORE Obama took office. Yes, there's a lot of housecleaning  to be done, but you can't undo eight years of mismanagement in two years.

I have plenty of criticism of Obama where he did things I don't like, but I do admire him for what he HAS done.

Well,. I certainly hope the GOP does what we sent them back for and tries to at least call a screeching halt to Obama's leftist agenda.

As for impeachment, well, I haven't heard anyone call for that, nor do I believe that Obama has done anything that remotely comes close to "high crimes or misdemeanors", so your paranoia is somewhat uncalled for.

      1. Doug Hughes profile image60
Doug Hughesposted 13 years agoin reply to this

I write like Chris. My clarity suffers as I get upset in proportion to my emotional state. The complaint LMC was responding to was 'socialism' - and 'socialism' to LMC and me is code for - rich people might be required to pay a fair share of taxes.

So we are not too sympathetic because to us (let me know if I am wrong, LMC) - 'socialism' is the war cry of idiots hoodwinked by billionaires.

You are correct - the Obamas are not poor - they do pay their taxes and they are generous with charity, as well.

        1. habee profile image92
habeeposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Yes, they are generous to others, and I applaud them for that. Wish they could give some charity lessons to Biden! lol

Doug, what do you think of a national sales tax instead of the traditional IRS? A system where luxuries like yachts, vacation homes, Ferraris, etc. would include a large tax? Food and other necessities would either have a small tax or no tax at all.

          1. Doug Hughes profile image60
Doug Hughesposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Habee, the idea of a National Sales Tax to replace the Income Tax is a sucker bet being promoted by the top 1%.

Here's the scam. The more money you make, the LESS you spend as a percent of income. People in the top 1% may spend less than half their income. Even a 'luxury tax' on toys for the wealthy won't close the gap by a fraction. You are a fair person, that's why you considered exempting food from the tax. Doo if you exempt the rich from paying tax on half their income - you exempt the poor from paying on necessities.

Where's the tax burden going to fall? The services government must provide have to be paid for, and by elimination, a HUGE burden will fall on the middle class. And they are struggling now.

        2. lovemychris profile image76
lovemychrisposted 13 years agoin reply to this

          Absolutely.
All these code words they use all the time:
"socialist", "muslim", "hates America",  "urban",  "not born here".

I'm sick to death of it.
Meanwhile, we are robbed blind by people who are already rich beyond their wildest dreams.

Obama may be rich, but he pays attention to the middle and under-classes too. He actually had to pay a BRIBE to do something for them!!! But do it he did.

It's just disgusting to me how far this country has strayed from its integrity in the small amount if time that I have been here.....

My father and grandfather....they were so pro-American!! So proud and grateful to be here. Everything they bought had to be "made in America".
Now look.....a mere 3 generations later, and hardly anything is "made in America".

          For Shame.

          1. BillyDRitchie profile image60
BillyDRitchieposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Um, LMC, socialist applies perfectly,  nobody in the mainstream of conservative thought has accused Obama of being a Muslim (although he is clearly sympathetic to Muslim causes), and while he may not hate America, he certainly does an awful lot of apologizing for it.   And despite the birther movement, I think most rational folks agree that Obama was born here (which makes his refusal to just simply produce the birth certificate and end all the nonsensical fuss all the more bewildering.)

Hate to burst your rabid stereotyping, but there it is,....

(Sigh), again, the wealthiest 1 percent of the population earn 19 percent of the income but pay 37 percent of the income tax.

And you still think they should pay more?

Again, exactly how much of someone else's income do you believe you are entitled to?
