in recent news, arnold has said he wants to return to acting.  some of his in development projects include a new "terminator" film along with a secret superhero movie, he's keeping under wraps.  he says there's plenty of other projects he's looking into at the moment, so what are your thoughts?  glad he's coming back or don't care?  I personally don't care to be quite honest, as he hasn't made a good film since "True Lies."  every other movie he's made since has sucked if you ask me, personally.  although "the expendables" wasn't too bad of a film, I wouldn't call it great or put it up there with Arnold's best works.  However, i guess we'll have to wait and see.  what are your thoughts on this?

Can I be the first to make the predictable joke about him saying "he'd be back" or would that be too crap to be acceptable?

I'm very glad he's back. I grew up with his films so I can't wait to see him back in the saddle. If Harrison Ford can still be believable as Indy than surely Arnold still has a few action roles left in him.

Yeah, but Harrison Ford is a much more versatile actor.  Arnold always relied on his charisma to carry him in movies. the only problem is he's too old to do the same films he used to do.  not only that, but the genre he used to be in has transcended into something else.  Action films these days require substance and character driven moments like what "Salt" and the "Bourne trilogy" presented.  cliched one liner action films aren't as popular as they used to be, as "expendables" was only a hit because of the all star gimmick it had.  I'm willing to bet if Stallone was the only star in that film, then it would've bombed fairly badly.

I don't think the market for old fashioned action has gone away in the slightest. You can have an action movie with one-liners and a character with substance (Die Hard movies come to mind). You can also have an old guy play the action star (Live Free or Die Hard, Expendables, Rambo, Indiana Jones, any recent Liam Neeson movie).

With today's digital technology and a good stuntman he could easily be in the same sorts of movies he used to be and I think a lot of people would go see that sort of movie. This is especially the case if he teemed up with James Cameron, I'd see that movie in a heartbeat.

You do bring up a lot of valid points. However, I wouldn't put "rambo" up there with being the type of one liner action films, as I think that's an obvious stereotype by the media. Even Stallone said that people often mistake the character as being some gun toting bad ass, when they fail to realize the human aspect of the character. If anyone actually watched those films, they would know that all the rambo movies are essentially about a Vietnam veteran that's isolated and alone. About a man that was sent off to fight in a war but when he comes back, he has no place to go. even in his home country, he's labeled as a baby killer just for doing what what the military trained him to do. then in the sequel, he's thrust back into an environment where he's forced to do the only thing he knows how to do, as he's trapped in a never ending war within himself. sure, it had the elements of a epic action film, but it was the underlining themes and character driven moments that was the real heart of the film.

As for Indiana Jones, I would have to credit that more towards George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg if anything, as anything those guys produce is instant box office gold.  Hell, George Lucas proved he can make a crappy film into a box office success with "Star Wars:  Episode I- The Phantom Menace", so it's not surprising his Indiana Jones produced film would do just as well.  Trust me, the guy knows how to market a product. wink lol  Not that Indiana Jones was a bad film, as I personally liked it too.  However, I don't know if I would say it's the best Indiana Jones film out there, as I still consider the first two the best by far.

As for Liam Neeson, I'm right with you there. he's definitely one of the most under rated and under used actors in hollywood as far as i'm concerned.  However, i wouldn't classify his latest film as a action movie though, as I would probably classify it more as a thriller/mystery/suspense type if anything.

As for the "expendables", it was a decent movie for what it was.  however, i stand by what i said earlier.  if stallone had been the sole star of that film, it would've bombed as the movie really wasn't that great.  hell, the film practically sacrificed too much story content in favor of giving each prospective star screen time and action scenes.

Although you do make an excellent point about the last "Die Hard" film, as I loved that movie.  Therefore, you may have a point there.  Plus, as you said, they've been known to make actors look younger with technology ala Patrick Stewart in "X-Men 3" and "x-men: orgins."  Hell, WB used the same cgi to make arnold look younger in the "terminator salvation" film, so I guess you got me there.  To be honest, I don't think Arnold should be acting anymore, but I've been wrong before.  I guess we'll have to wait and see.

It's great to welcome Arnold back into the real world.  The imaginary world of politics is just too way out there loll!

Let's just hope he doesn't take another crack at children's films.

No. I don't care. In fact, I'm sure they could make a decent Terminator movie without him. He's really too old to be taking seriously as a super hero. And, that doesn't include the whole actor turned governor turned actor bit. He is probably acting his way through his government role as it is.

I think it is time for Arnold and mister Stalone to think about their retirement. There are just too many other better actors out there that can fill their shoes. I would much rather see Jake Gyllenhaal. Then Arnold on the big screen any day.

I don't disagree.  Although for superhero films, I can see him doing one, as he's still in pretty good shape for it.  However, I think you're right about Stallone and Schwarzenneger need to just retire from acting.  I think Stallone should do what Eastwood has been doing for years; which is start directing and writing films exclusively versus starring in them.  Stallone showed he knows how to write a good story with his first Rocky film, and he has some experience directing already.  Therefore, I think Stallone should just retire from acting and stick to mainly directing and writing if you ask me.

As for Arnold, I think he needs to just retire period.  he was always a fairly decent actor at best, but he's never been that versatile.  As his acting style is limited to a genre of films that has transcended into something far more complex than the ones made in his heyday where a guy could quote on liners and blow s*** up all the time.  Arnold had a great run, but he needs to just retire and do something else.  Hell, maybe he should open up a series of gyms around the world, since he knows a lot about fitness.

He has to act in another genre.  He's too old to be action guy anymore.

Well he can always do comedies I guess like he did with "Jingle All the way", "twins" and others.  then again, even those films, he was still somewhat of an action guy, so you might be right about that.

I always enjoyed his movies, but then, I think it has been at least 15 years since I have seen one...  I'd be up to seeing something new with him in it.

"Returns" to acting? Well, what was he doing in California all those years? :p

He must have been so bored as Governor of California,

Remember he said in his first role on the Terminator movie (1984) "I'll Be Back" and he was right we just didn't know it was going to take 27 years to happen. LOL

Personally, I'd like to see the guy back in films.  But resurrecting him in a new Terminator film may not work, since he's too old. They would need to patch him up a bit too, cause he got blown up so bad in Terminator 3.lol

I see your point, but if they could patch together Mickey Rourke as Whiplash in Iron Man 2,

then they can do wonders with Arnold!!!

I don't know how well it will work out overall, but he should be back in the Expendables 2 working with Bruce Willis who's supposed to be the primary bad guy. It'll be nice to see him back in small roles, but not as a lead actor anymore. He'll at least have to share the spotlight.

Maybe he will do better in a detective or business role instead of action.
