HP Envy 17 -- how do you correct the jumpy mouse/touch pad?

   This is driving me nuts!!  I have configured all the settings to no avail!!  I can't use the touchpad and the left click button at the same time -- the cursor jumps all over the place!!  It's like a kangaroo rat rather than a mouse!  I've tried HP's site for driver updates but can't find any.
   
   Help!!!  Please???

   I'll try that now though the driver is not for my model (Envy 17 1190-ca) but it's worth a try!!

      Forget the driver.. did you enter the synaptic settings shown in screen caps?
      
      I played with that env model for a few hours, but dont have one of my own.

         Yes.  I've tried and tried.  Tweaked and tried again.  It only gets worse, not better. 
         
         I've never experienced this before on any laptop.  It's quite frustrating!!!  >..<
         
         I'm going to reboot now and see what happens.....  O..o

   Well, turns out the update is the same one that came with the machine...
   
   but....
   
   going into Device Manager and selecting the right device, I am managing to download the latest version this way 
   
   All Kangaroo Rats of the World -- keep your legs crossed!!! 
   
   
   No steering wheel, but maybe that's the problem!!! 
   
   Downloading done -- now to log off and restart!!

   Work with their live tech support Beth.. it sounds like there is more than one issue with this... and I am not familiar with this model either..sorry mate.

         the HpNV17 is a $1200 laptop - if its not working perfectly and ironing your clothes there is no reason to mess around. Return it while your under warranty/ Get a fresh one that works out of box or put that 1k into a custom build from TigerDirect/NewEgg etc.
         
         I reviewed that line .. I would have bought an Alienware for a similar style and function.
         
         I like Toshibas myself, but you can get a good product from just about any of the brands.

            *blush*  if only it was $1200!!  List price here is about another $1k above that.....
            
            Too late to return it -- past the 14 day guarantee.  Foolish me -- I have this Envy because my HP Pavillion crapped out on me (<2 years old) and under the warranty, they owed me a new computer. (got a sweet deal under the warranty)
            
            So, voila!  here's the Envy -- not an envy of others afterall!
            
            Personally, I love the Toshiba too, but they didn't have a 17" screen with a dedicated graphics card (Autocad -- need I say more??) 
            
            Tried everything -- even pointer speed.  No go. 
            
            Will try what PD suggests - live tech. 
            
            Will get back to you about this nonsense!!

   Mouse
   pointer options
   pointer speed
   turn the speed down, see if that helps.

       lol - it was eaten by an endangered, yet cuddly mammal.
       
       It would have been of little use to you now anyway as it merely compared technical specs and pointed out some known issues .. I ended saying someone who wanted the same type  (media/gaming/ great aesthetic design) would do well looking into the alienware builds.
       
       My original comment pretty much summed it up
       
       
       I looked into the line specifically because of the beats by dre branding in the previous model...

          It probably would have.  ha ha  I don't know if the store would have let me trade down though -- that would mean they would be paying me cash rather than the other way around  would have been nice though!
          
          I use my machine for Autocad - 3D and rendering - alongside with my projector for presentations.  (Yes, I do more than just write... I'd be withered away from starving if I depended on my writing income  )  The main requirement I need for the machine is a second dedicated graphics card to run the Autocad.  This is where the market narrows considerably.  There are not too many choices out there! And speed is a definite factor -- can't wait for 5 minutes while the building appears and then another 10 while it renders
          
          Next time, I'll look at Alienware... maybe a basic one for my kids to use    They'd like that!
