   This is driving me crazy... so I apologize for asking a non HubPages question here, but you guys are so great all the time I figured I would ask.
   
   I am attempting to place Adsense on my new Wordpress blog.  I am pasting the code in the text widget and it basically won't save.  I put it in... click done, check it, click done again... but after I click save changes and check the text widget, the code is gone!!!  So obviously it is not showing up on the blog.
   
   Same thing is happening when I try putting the code in a post.
   
   What gives?
   
   Please help... I am about to throw my computer across the room

   Huh. That is really weird. I have never put adsense ads on a wordpress.com blog before that I recall, but I have never had a problem doing it on a non wordpress.com WP blog. I'm going to install on my personal website and get back to you about whether or not I can make it work there. It is possible that wordpress.com is restricting the insertion of java script into the widgets, but that is really strange!

   Okay, I can resolve this issue on my personal blog, but the version appears to be outdated. I haven't used that blog in forever. It's an earlier version than what wordpress.com has.
   
   On the blog on my personal site I need to put a title in for the widget/module. Then I can get it to go through and work. Without the title, nothing at all.
   
   On wordpress.com, I can't make it happen. The first time I put in a title and then copied and pasted the code. When I clicked "save" it happened just as you described. The site reflected the title, but nothing else. So that's strange.
   
   I deleted that widget and tried again. When I saved, both the title and the code was missing. So my guess is that Wordpress.com is no longer allowing adsense ads on their pages.
   
   I would check their support forums and see what you can find. If no answers there, the post a topic and see if you get a response. I'm sorry that I can't help you more. I've never tried to put adsense ads on a wordprss.com site!

   Wordpress.com does not allow AdSense adds on their blogs.  This applies to blogs ending in .wordpress.com/.  If your blog is under your own domain name, then that is not the problem.
   
   Another idea, the widget is HMTL format, and I *think* the google adds are another format. 
   
   I have ran into trouble with the format, trying to put an Analytics tracking code on my wordpress blog.

   That's what I thought it might be, Ivorwen. Strange though, considering that blogging forums seem to refer to putting Adsense ads on Wordpress.com blogs all the time. I always thought that seemed quite strange!

   yep that's exactly it... cannot do it on Wordpress.COM!
   
   Crazy... cos you are right, i just assumed you could based on everything I have read.
   
   what is the cheapest, but best way to set up a blog and be able to use AdSense?
   
   i thought you could with wordpress... that sucks!

      Try Google's blog(s).  Sorry, I forget the name, but if you go to your google homepage, and click on more, you can set up a free blog.  (I think they are Blogspot)

      Okay, I hit reply before all the others responded and grabbed myself a coffee so I didn't get the full picture until I read what everyone else has said.
      
      wordpress.com is a hosted blogging platform. No Adsense allowed.
      
      wordpress.org gives you the same thing, as a download, to install onto your own webhosting. And you can implement Adsense ads.
      
      With the right webhosting account you can easily install WordPress without raising a sweat.

         Hosting can be downright cheap, too. Like I said, you can get it for less than $5 a month and most will allow you to install it with a couple of clicks, no problems at all. The version will be outdated in most cases, depending on your host, but it's easy. Domains can be registered for about $10 for a year.

   Honestly, my exposure to the Internet world social has been quite limited, and mot of it has been limited to wordpress.com.  That is where I discovered the ability to share ideas and knowledge, as well as enjoy writing.  I have been reading here on hubpages a few months, joined facebook, though I don't overly care for it, and used Helium.com a bit. 
   
   Before that, I relied wholly on search engines.
   
   Forums are brand new to me.

   Sometimes you need a special wp plugin to make the Adsense work. Or...
   
   You need to open the right php file, usually in the folder of the theme you're using, and copy and paste the code into there (which is hopefully the right place).
   
   If you don't know PHP it can be a bit tricky. But if you're very familiar with HTML you can kind of feel your way around. I keep a copy of the original file somewhere else on my hard drive in case I do the wrong thing, and I upload the edited file and see if I broke it or not (or whether it's worked).

   my blog is going to be about biking in Los Angeles... the premise being that even in the heart of car culture, one can almost solely bike... it will chronicle experiences biking, give some tips, and from time to time might be slightly off color, but nothing too out there :->

    Okay, I have motherhoodmiracle.com and I have... I can't remember the name of the other one dagnabbit! Political-fringe.com. That one is my husband's site. I can install a blog for you on either of those two domains. Just give me the name of a subdomain you would like and give me until tomorrow.
    
    Keep in mind of course that I can't market for you like wordpress.com does to a certain extent as well as blogger.
    
    But I honestly think that I'm probably going to be your best option and you shouldn't have any more problems with wordpress if you're using FireFox like I am!
    
    I'd like to add that a link back to my friend who hosts the site would be a nice touch. I won't insist, but it doesn't hurt to ask

    I made the same mistake about wordpress.com - there are so many people out there talking about blogging on Wordpress and it's easy for newbies to think they're talking about the .com version.
    
    If you're serious about starting a blog, I'd recommend you buy a domain name and pay for hosting, and set up the blog using Wordpress.org (which is free).  The investment for one year of domain name + hosting isn't that much when you think about it. Mine cost me $75 Australian and I went with an Aussie hosting company which isn't the cheapest way of doing it.
    
    You'll be able to create a good name for your blog (read Eric Graudin's Hub about the Radio Rule to understand why that's important - if it's still there, Eric, or tell us where to find it?) and you'll have total freedom to advertise.   
    
    You'll also find Wordpress.org is much more flexible and versatile than the .com version - which also means there's more of a learning curve, but you can set up something basic to start with and tweak as you go along.

    I am going to refer you to the person who hosts my sites. He is a reseller, which some people don't like. I have had a problem or two due to this fact because if he doesn't pay his bill, we get cut off.
    
    I forgot to mention I also have sims2writersguild.com. Oops. I don't run that site so I forget I own it. Weird.
