I just looked at the data for amazon and ebay capsules across HubPages over the last 14 months. The click through rate for a capsule is typically in the 2-3% range. Over the year revenue per click is about 30% higher for eBay capsules, except in December where the roles were reversed and Amazon did significantly better. On average, an amazon or ebay capsule will be worth about a dollar for every thousand hub views. Of course, if the products aren't directly related to your content the value will likely be significantly lower.
Some suggestions from this data:
- For your hubs getting significant traffic, it is worth a little effort to make sure the products match well in your capsules
- When in doubt, consider using an eBay capsule
- Next December, you may want to consider switching your highest traffic hubs to Amazon capsules
Thank you Paul, this is very useful information that I will use.
Thanks Paul...I have had much better response with the Amazon than the ebay, though....so I removed my ebay.
Thanks for the info Paul. I make a rule of trying to have relevant Amazon and eBay products on all my hubs.
I'm sure I saw some advice not to start using eBay capsules until you had good traffic, because if you don't make any sales within a certain period, eBay will deactivate your account.
My question is, if that's the case, how much traffic is good traffic?

Have you seen the new rules regarding product capsules? It's in the HubPages Weekly. We have to reduce products within each capsule from 2 to 1, as a way to prevent looking spammy by Google. Oh Lord, what a task. I've already started this morning, 14 hubs down, 37 hubs to go. Question to...

The nice thing about the new Amazon capsule is that it displays the description text in the same size as the rest of the hub. This can be beneficial and may turn into better sales. So I reorganized one of my hubs, moving much of my text from text capsules into the Amazon description fields. This...

I often see barely related Amazon ads on pages here. Sometimes, I see ads that seem plain perverse -- ads for Apple TV on an apple pie recipe page, for example.I'm sure a lot of the most unrelated (and harmful) Amazon ads come from the 'choose keywords' feature in Amazon capsules.Might be helpful...

Today I have a quick announcement. We are retiring Amazon Capsules with multiple products. Writers haven’t been able to create these in a very long time, but some very old articles still contain Amazon Capsules with multiple products in them. On January 8th, these will be converted to...

This is a two-fold issue. I know we're in the middle of a Google Typhoon or whatever animal is wreaking havoc this month plus the summer traffic is, well, obviously somewhere else. In January/February of this year, my traffic was around 2000 views per day. Right now, I'm lucky if I crack 400. I'm...
