   4 times now my browser has departed my stats page or forum page and tried going to some ad website or the other. Twice yesterday and twice today.
   
   Look for this miscreant file floating around your website:
   
   x m o n w e a c s r (without the spaces of course   )
   
   PS The search engines apparently have never heard of this file.

   I've had that problem before, too. Are you using FF? Since I switched to Chrome it hasn't happened again, but I don't know if that's why it stopped.

      The first incident was with FF, my computer had a Data Execution Prevention episode as a result. That’s how I discovered the file name. But now it is happening with IE as well.

      I just tried chrome. It informed me that an untitled page was unresponsive when I tried to go to HP.

   Despite what my security programs say and the fact that it’s only happened at HP so far, I’m still having very nervous feelings of course.
   
   I need to know if others are experiencing this. If so, then we will know that it’s just something that HP needs to fix.
   
   Otherwise, my nervousness shall continue. I’m wondering if it’s something I picked up from a hub ad. The only other site I have visited was a huffingtonpost link here.

   paradigmsearch--Download and update and run Malwarebytes Antimalware Free Version.  I haven't encountered this problem here...you might have a nasty something on board.

      That is one of my 3 security programs that says I am fine.
      
      Thus my tentative conclusion that this is an HP issue. But only one other person has confirmed that.

   If HP would confirm that they are aware of a problem and fixing it, I could quit worrying about this.
   
   If HP would confirm that they are not having a problem, I would appreciate that as well. I could then try to figure out what else I can do.

      Sounds like it to me too, but the HP silence is deafening. It won’t hurt my little feelings if they tell me that there is absolutely nothing wrong and that xmon… did not come from HP.
      
      If xmon… did come from one of their advertising partners, that’s no big deal. HP is not the first major entity to be abused by obnoxious advertisers.

    I am now downloading security program number 4. Cnet is a good resource for that for whoever doesn’t know.

    Well, what with only one other person confirming, I am nonplussed.
    
    I will check back in June; unless the problems happen when I visit another website other than HP. Then the source probability (not certainty) is not endemic to just HP.

       I've tried logging off and back on my account multiple times in an attempt to replicate this issue with no success. I'll go ahead and bring this thread to the team's attention so we can monitor the situation, but as far as I know, we haven't heard more reports of this problem yet. I apologize in advance if it turns out to be an error on our end. Rest assured that we are *not* redirecting our users on purpose.

          Well, I’ve reviewed this thread.
          
          Just to make sure that HP understands:
          
          I never, ever thought that HP was deliberately sending people to unrequested websites. I’m too fond of you guys to think that.
          
          What has happened is that HP, I, and others have been victimized by a crooked advertising partner that HP wasn’t aware of.
          
          Or
          
          The HP website was the victim of a drive-by.
          
          And most importantly, this has happened before. There have been other posts in the past where people have stated that what has happened to me has also happened to them. In other words, HP has had this problem before and has successfully fixed the problem before.
          
          Looking for that file name I gave you early in this thread is probably the key to the solution this time around.

    A note to fellow victims. The aforementioned file permanently messes with your browser. After everything else is cleaned up, you need to uninstall the browser and get a new one.

    Hey I have a Dell Computer and was infected by a virus. I cleaned it up and all my programs say I am clean but I am getting random window opens. One of them matches yours that was previously posted:

    I upgraded from firefox 3.6 to 4 and that didn't effect it. Still happening
