I still haven't seen anyone actually address this Ryan plan on here. The Republicans spent two years lying to the public about Obama wanting to end Medicare, to kill grandma with death panels...then a year later, they want to end Medicare, some of the town halls they get skewered in by the same constituents who were on their side earlier, and today, the Senate announces they will put it on the floor. Where is the outrage? I know we get used to the hypocrisy of the Republicans, but ?

It's looking like Medicare will be a, if not the defining issue of 2012.
The GOP has revealed its hypocrcisy and shown that they, not the Dems, are the ones who want to dismantle Medicare.
It's not just the current Medicare recipients who are up in arms over that one. As someone just below the cutoff I'm pretty upset myself. Don't you DARE take away Medicare -- unless you're replacing it with blanket national healthcare for ALL (mucho preferable).

The thing is, Evan is right about the two parties advertising differently. This is what makes me crazy about the Dems. We are entirely too "fair" and "nice" "genteel" when it comes to this stuff.
We try to take the high road and pull with positivity.
But the strongest motivation in the world is fear.
Why does the GOP understand that and we are too stupid (or maybe too smart for our own good)?
I'm waiting for the ads titled "Who wants to kill grandma NOW?"

Cuz you just know that the right is out there plotting and scheming their next fear campaign as we speak. Based on absolutely nothing. (Michelle Bachmann anyone?)

If you actually look at it, the Republicans were pushing a baby-Obama bill when Bush was president. They just didn't advertise it.

The two parties are the same, they just advertise differently.

Point and case: Gitmo's still open, we're in 5 undeclared wars, both parties have failed to stop/slow government spending, Iraq will never end... yada yada yada.

Pretty close Evan. One wants to regulate the market and one doesn't, however. I know we are on opposing sides of that debate.

It still doesn't change that one side wants to regulate the market and the other doesn't.

this is just a bit off topic but recently the top ten richest counties in the country were announced and the top five are all suburbs of DC with median household incomes of $100K +.  That means that while our country is in the red and average citizens are suffering through the recession the politicians don't want to acknowledge exists, they are sitting pretty in upper-upper middle class neighborhoods completely disaffected by the messy economy they have created.  If ever you needed proof of how our politicians, democratic and republican alike, turn into greedy you-know-whats upon getting to the hill, here it is.

I found it strange that so many NJ counties were in there. What gives? That doesn't make sense.

I wondered the same thing as I grew up there but most of those are near larger cities like NYC where the money is available.

Isn't privileges of the elite what the whole western and now eastern world is based on? Most everybody wants it.

true to a point.  America itself was founded on an equal society where everyone can live their dreams and government was set up so that the people were to be supported and be allowed to participate.  most everybody does want the privileges of the elite but it wasn't supposed to be for the elite alone.  we have strayed so far from our founding principles that it is scary.

Republicans represent big business period and nothing else. Anything they say otherwise is lying to the peons to get their vote. Medicare means big business don't get to make as much money. The Dems
traditionally were supposed to represent the workers. Because big-business owns the media, they are voo-doo pin dolls. See Anthony David Weiner. "In late July 2009, Weiner succeeded in securing a full House floor vote for single payer health care when Congress returned from its August recess..."
