Not getting this wheel thing about how hubs rank

Someone told me something a few days ago about a "wheel" that determines which hubs show up on people's home page first.  For the life of me, I can't find the thread.

Anyway, idea was that new activity on a hub can cause it to bounce up.  I've done a few tests, though, and I'm not seeing it.  Under latest, or under hot.

Other people's comments, my comments back, revisions, etc... none of them seem to have an effect.  Is there a time lag?  Am I looking in the wrong place?

Just trying to understand the mechanism.

    thx

    hmmm... wait.

    Or was it "the feed"

(this is what I get for trying to remember something I've only got fragments of)

Looking at home page now, maybe it was about that feed....

but that's only things you're following, right?

I think the wheel you are referring to applies to google rank rather than hubpages rank...

I'm explaining myself badly, I'm afraid.  I see now that it's the feed on the homepage that I never visit.  I kept trying to see it under hubs with latest and so on.

Feed only appears to show thing you're already following, though.

Nor will most of your readers, so it's not important.

I often wonder just how many people do visit that page? smile

OK... just trying to get the terminology down and understand how it all works.

I think I've got this bit now.  It was "feed."  I just couldn't remember the word.  I've looked into it a bit since.

          thx, guys.
