I've made more than I can count, and the way I do it is completely unlike the smoothie places, but everyone who has ever tried them likes them much better than anything you can buy.

I often make variations at parties as well.

I do different flavors, but the key is NO FILLER.  No sugar, no ice.

I start by freezing SLIGHTLY over-ripe bananas.  When they get just past the ripe phase, the balance of sugar shifts, and they become sweeter.

The bananas provide the milkshake style thickness.

The rest of the fruit is frozen.  (REAL fruit... not that syrupy crap.)  By using frozen fruit, I get a smoothie that doesn't need ice, has more than twice the amount of fruit, and MUCH more flavor than the stuff at the smoothie bars.

      A couple favorites:

      1 banana
      6 ounces of acai/blueberry GoodBelly
      handfull of blueberries
      Handfull of strawberies
You can add yogurt if you like, but it's not necessary

      or

      1 banana
      8 ounces of coconut water
      1 handfull of pineapple
      2 strawberries
Again, I don't add yogurt, but it wouldn't kill it

These are very thick and sweet.  Adding sugar would be overkill.  The amount of flavor per sip is FAR more than the common ice-filled varieties.

      enjoy

      no problem.

I cook all kinds of things, but I never measure, so "handfull" will have to do for now.

Not looking for anything.  It's not my topic for writing, so knock yourself out.

      My fave is:

      one medium ripe banana
      two cups of fresh strawberries
enough orange juice (without added sugar - I use Trader Joe's) to cover the fruit in the blender

That's it. Enjoy! (you can use it for your blog)

      1 banana

add 1/2 serving or a small handful of frozen fruit of choice:

      mango
      pineapple
      peaches
      strawberries

      or mixed berries

1 scoop sherbet (flavor of choice)
1 scoop vanilla ice cream (or yogurt)

fill blender to 1 serving mark with juice of choice (add more if necessary) and blend til smooth.  add 3 ice cubes, blend til smooth.  serve & enjoy!

I go for the rise-and-shine smoothie with virgin coconut oil.

      Ingredients:

      - mangoes/bananas
      - coconut flakes
      - virgin coconut oil
      - non-fat chocolates

    working
