Celebrities Baby Names: Trying Too Hard to Be Cool?

   David Beckham just named his baby "Harper Seven" - he just seems like a total airhead.  I can just  see him sitting down and saying with a straight face, "How about we name the baby 'Mystic Harbors Beckham" and being totally serious about it, as if he has said something really deep and intelligent.

      Oh yes...let's all name our children the same traditional names so they can fit in some cookie-cutter mold. I give a huge vote to the original. Why shouldn't names be unique and meaningful? There is a meaning behind both "Harper" and "Seven".....both names are very fitting.

      These exotic first names are fine for celebs in the showbiz and sporting circles they inhabit. But try growing up in a working class neighbourhood with a name like Moon Unit and your life would be tricky.

      Michael Jackson named one of his kids Blanket.
      
      Creativity in a name is ok as long as it doesn't get your kids' ass kicked.

   When I was young and a total freak, I wanted to have a daughter and name her Retribution. My girlfriend at the time was like, 'yeah, no f***ing way'. Still dont have offspring but have since overcome that. As for the need to get over one's self, being a celeb probably doesnt help the matter much. Look at the Zappa kids: Moon Unit, Dweezil,  Ahmet Emuukha Rodan and Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen. Their parents names are Francis and Gail. holycrap

      When I was travelling in Australia, I read a letter in a magazine where a lady was proudly proclaiming that she had named her new daughter Alaskah-Wave?

   Yes it is a bit of a handful. However I am sure that Becks did not make that descision alone, Posh must have had a lot of influence. Never mind as far as we know mum and baby are fine and that is all that matters.  I for one did not like the name of their eldest Brooklyn, but as time has passed it has grown on me. The only problem is that years ago there was a programme on British TV called Blakes Seven- the babies name sort of echoes a little.......

   If you say it quickly with Becks Essex accent it comes out at
   
   "Half past seven"
