Really? What about building a bridge? Railroads? What about laying down pavement for a road? What about police? What about EMTs? What about the fire dept? What about soldiers who protect your freedom to say such things? What about the the EPA who doesn't let that energy plant up the road from your house dump their waste in your pool? Ever try to make money building a bridge? You should try to think deeper...you'll learn some things.

Michigan started out with the most unemployment. Things are starting look up here now. Maybe it takes more patience. I may be wrong, but who knows.

If Congress doesn't get busy though passing the debt ceiling, things are going to get even worse because the American dollar is going to go down in value.

Not anywhere in the entire thing you posted did it refer to absolutely ANYTHING about this "stimulation." What is a stimulation anyway. You stated the only government can create jobs is to "stay out of the pocket of business and off the taxpayer's backs." Those are you exact words. You can't man up to the fact that you were smacked in your face with facts and a better point, so now you want to what...call me government employee plant? What a child.

"Ever try to make money building a bridge?"

        Not personally no.

But private contractors build bridges and roads everyday and make millions doing it.

They do it better and faster than their government counterparts.

        Think on that...deeply.

Who do you think is paying the contractors to build the bridges? In nearly all cases federal, state, county and city governments.
The government doesn't build bridges and other infrastructure. It pays private contractors to do so.

Please list two major bridges in this country that are privately built, owned and operated.
          We are waiting.
You will find them, but when you do you will find that they are not built with the needs of the public in mind, but of the builder.  Turning over the infrastructure of our country to the whims of the private sector, without any hint of larger scale planning for a growing population is madness.

One is the Ambassador Bridge between Detroit and Windsor. It was privately built, 1927-29. It is currently owned by Mannie Mououn considered by by many as a bridge troll. He's proposing to build a second bridge next to the current one. But Canada and Gov. Snyder of Michigan are supporting a public bridge to be built and operated by a US-Canada public authority. Mouron has been contributing huge sums to members of the Michigan legislature to influence their votes in favor of his private bridge project.

            http://multimedia.detnews.com/pix/photo … index.html

I'm not a big fan of privatizing what should be public endeavors--schools, toll roads, bridges and especially not prisons.

Actually if Wall Street speculation is continued, jobs won't come. In the Great Depression jobs for infrastructure and big government partnerships with private industry put people to work. If the Republicans want main street to have a chance, they need to put people to work, and Wall Street won't do it for them, unless they get the housing bubble they want.

Issues with so many government workers goes back to the 1800's.  They are entrenched and since they are always there they have the politicians ear.  Guess what they promote?  More government and more government workers.
Time to elect politicians that are willing to make the sacrifice and do what is right.
Michelle Obama has a staff of 24 at a cost to the taxpayers of 1.6 million annually.
There are 141 employees in the White House that make a 6 figure income. With a total of 454 direct employees of the executive branch.  Say WHAT!  Thought we got rid of the monarchy over 200 years ago!
The House of Representatives has over 2000 staffers that make 6 figure incomes.  With a total of over 30,000 legislative branch employees.  This is just totally insane!  And that doesn't cover any of the cabinet employees.

      NO.

      Is that a real question?

They are to pay for things like the Military, Soc. Sec. and welfare -or the Leftists would freak-, and then there is paying to build highways, bridges, and all the other shit we need fixed with our infra-structure to survive as a nation. There is plenty to do with the cash we take in that doesn't include hiring people as federal employees and building up huge Unions and thier bank accounts. And when we had all that fixed and going and didn't need to keep spending so much we could always cut taxes.

You need to take Economics 101. The stimulus program wasn't enough to do the job, but it created nearly 3 million jobs.

"...But to estimate the answers to such questions, economists rely on models based on historical relationships between various policies and real-world results. Earlier this month, Zandi and co-author Alan Blinder, former vice chairman of the Federal Reserve, released the most detailed assessment of the government's efforts to combat the so-called Great Recession. Neither economist is regarded as a partisan firebrand. Zandi, for example, backed John McCain in the 2008 presidential campaign and has advised members of both parties.

"Their conclusion: The fiscal stimulus created 2.7 million jobs and added $460 billion to gross domestic product. Unemployment would be 11% today if the stimulus hadn't been passed and 16.5% if neither the fiscal stimulus nor the banks' rescue had been enacted, according to Zandi and Blinder. "It's pretty hard to deny that it had a measurable impact," Zandi said.

As of Aug. 13, almost 64% of the program's original $787 billion had been spent. (The Congressional Budget Office, which is among those concluding that the program had a broadly positive economic result, currently projects the Recovery Act's total cost to be $814 billion. Including an earlier Bush administration tax rebate and some unrelated programs, total stimulus spending will reach about $1 trillion over several years.)..."

We need tax money to pay for all things we use. People who live in countries with high taxes are the happiest because they don't have to worry about health care, unemployment, or retirement. 42 percent of financial wealth is controlled by the top 1 percent. 1 percent of Americans own almost half the money in the country. How does the math work out on that? What we need to do is raise the taxes on the top 1 percent and stop free trade. Free trade is sending all the factory jobs to China. There are 3 perfectly good factories sitting empty in my home town. And because there are no factory jobs older people are taking all the fast food and retail jobs. There are very few opportunities for young people like myself. Thank you old people for not paying any damn attention and allowing this to happen.

It's gotten so we the voters don't have much influence. We vote for the best man and then they don't listen to the people.

What are you doing to change things??? I resent you blaming this on what you call the "old people." If you are paying attention right now like you say we didn't, you know that the average person can't do anything about it anymore.

I'm sorry If I offended you. I vote, I started registering others to vote when I was 14 in the '04 election. I educate myself and others about the issues at hand. I write my congressmen and senators. I do what I can. Most importantly, I am passionate in my love for this country. Passionate enough to form my own opinions rather than receiving false information from cable news. I'd like to say out sourcing started before President George W. Bush. From what I understand outsourcing started in 1980's with Reagan and the George H. W. Bush administration accelerated the program. But the real problems began in 1994 under President Clinton with the passing of NAFTA and the WTO, both of which make it impossible to place taxes or tariffs on outsourced work. I feel like most people base their votes on which candidate has the same religious or social values as them rather than important issues like jobs. Who cares if the candidate is the same religion as you, or how much they say "folk" and wear a plaid shirt if they'll continue to send jobs overseas?
