Every day when I log into HubPages, the first thing I do is read my new comments and approve them.
However, I'll be wandering around my hubs and I'll see comments that HubPages kind of says are spam, but I never received ANY notification of the comment.
It would be nice to be able to mod these "spam" comments in the comments section of my account. Otherwise, I'm given no notification of the comments whatsoever... I only receive knowledge of their existence when I stumble across one in a hub of mine.
I can understand not receiving an email about the comment because a lot of spam comments would clog my inbox and drive me nuts, but I would like the opp to moderate them in my CP.
I used to write under a different name around a year ago or so, and only after reading your post and going back to my old account did I realize the same thing has happened to me in the past. Not with this account, obviously, but nonetheless.
If an author is moderating the comments on their hubs, you would think all hubs would be subject to the moderation. The lack of an email is, as you stated, understandable, but to make it near impossible to moderate "spam" comments doesn't make much sense.
If HP wanted to make it so authors could check up on spam comments, the site could always adjust it so a weekly email re: spam comments left was circulated to authors (obviously varying upon author), or could just make another section for spam comments to be stored and then moderated.
Either way, keeping an author from knowing about the existence of the post doesn't solve the problem. It just makes keeping your account and replies cleaned up and up-to-date more difficult.
I think I have to agree with you on this point. It's definitely something HubPages should take a look into. Have you made any comments re: this oddity to staff as of yet? Or just this post?
Hopefully even just this post will bring enough attention to the issue that it's addressed.
A useful observation... I feel silly for having missed it.
You can see them across all of your Hubs in my account under comments, by selecting "Spam" in the filter drop down. Here's a direct link:

Don't feel silly for missing it... I feel like a jerk for knowing about it for months and not saying anything!

If I am not wrong comments were moderated before we were given the chance to view them and choose to accept or deny it, at least in case of unregistered users. Am I wrong in thinking this was the case and it was just something on QnA?If it was, is this no longer the case?I have been getting a lot...

Would there be a way to notify us of ALL comments and let us decide if they are spam or not? Just today I checked an older hub and noticed 2 comments...one 11 months ago and the other 10 months ago. The first had left a link to another website on the same subject and the second had...

We just deployed an update to the site, which includes some changes to comment moderation. You now have the ability to do two things you couldn't before -- 1) identify a comment as spam and 2) delete a comment permanently.Eventually we plan to allow fan mails to be moderated similarly, but...

Are spam comments supposed to show up in our feed? I've never noticed them before, but all of these latest spam comments are appearing in my feed on the home page, and I've received a notification email about three of them (even though they were correctly marked as spam by HubPages).

It's been about 24 hours now. You know when someone is in the middle of leaving a comment and you see this? After a while the comment/s appear ready for approval. Mine seems to be stuck.
