I've received two of these in 24 hours, one purporting to be from Paypal, the other from Comcast. Each is laid out the same way (looking quite official) and says this:
"There is an error with our database and our servers are in maintenance and we like to have a back up of your ACCOUNT to prevent losing all your information's otherwise your account will be put on hold in 48 hours.
"To avoid this from happening you must press submit button for our request"
And don't you love the lousy grammar?
Both PayPal and Comcast verified these emails as fraudulent.
If you get one, contact the trusted source...they'll give you an email address to forward the phishing email to. Then, change your passwords for those accounts. And run a virus scan.

My emails are automatically scanned. But, thank you for the heads up. I'm used to getting fraud emails from all sorts of places, including the Federal Government.
So, if one comes in that makes it past my email scanner, I still don't response or click anything. I call the source via phone.
If it's from the Federal Government, like some have been, I visit the official FBI website and check out the validity.
Mine are scanned, too, Cags. But the phishers are mighty clever. Love that you get fraud emails from the fed gov...that is so nicely ironic.
They are fraudulent emails by people pretending to be the Federal Government. I've reported a few of them that I've received to the FBI, as a just in case. Yes, it's ironic that there are some idiots out there thinking that people would fall for it and I don't doubt that there are some idiots who do fall for it.
Usually a phishing scam will direct you to a domain with an identical webpage to the official site but in the address bar it will have a slightly different URL..when you type in your password it is recorded in a file on the webmasters host.
Reputable companies and financial institutions, eBay, Paypal, et al, will never contact you via email and they will never require details of your username or password. Never.
If you ever receive an email like the one you suggest Sally, I can almost guarantee you will not receive a second email saying we did not get your details in time.
These are phishing scams and are designed to fraudulently obtain usernames and passwords for financial gain.
Simply adjust your junk mail settings and delete said emails.

Yes, they will, with notifications about upcoming charges to your account and current online statements, among a few other things like offers and deals.

Just to emphasize what you said, KJ, a trusted presence on the net with whom you have an account will never ask you to confirm or agree to anything about your account unless you are logged in to their site with your secured ID (as in, never through an email message), unless that email message offers you the opportunity to opt out of the promotional crap they send you.

I have enabled all HP options for receiving email. I am getting no email messages except the weekly HP email sent by HP. My email server is comcast. Any suggestions or thoughts?
