Got this message on trying to post a reply (tried posting both to the thread and to the poster):  The BBCode syntax in the message is incorrect. Quote tag missing end bracket.

All brackets seemed to be in place, as they should be.

Tell you what, try to post a reply here, either to the thread in general or to a poster...what happens for you?

Fascinating...I can't post any reply in that thread. Still getting the same error message, but I see your posts.

What I tried to post was pasted from my clipboard, a piece of text that I saved in an MS Word doc. I can post to that forum if I just type into the box, like now, but not if I paste what's on the clipboard. That's never happened before.

Just now, I tried pasting that same text into this forum, and the same error message appears. Cags, maybe try writing something in Word 2010 (if you have it), copy it, and try to paste it as a reply. I mean, only if you have nothing better to do. smile

My best guess is that you somehow have a special character embedded (hidden) in your text that is making HP unhappy. smile

            No special characters.

Here's some of the text, retyped by hand (can't paste it in here, because that generates the same message as in the other thread):

If you are talking about the Henry Ford Hub, then fully half of it is comprised of quotes. I don't know who the other famous person was that you wrote a Hub about...(and more)

Try copying the entire text to notepad. Then copy from notepad to here.

      Hey Sally,

I don't have Word 2010 and don't use a word processor to do my writing. I write directly into Hubs text capsules. wink

But, I'm not having any issues with posting a reply. I've not tried to cut and paste from some other location, but you should be able to see anything it brings with it, using the cut and paste feature, once it's located to the spot you want.

There shouldn't be anything hidden, once the paste is done. At least not that I know of.

I have no other ideas, so I must conclude that you are doomed. That, or for some reason HP doesn't like Henry Ford.big_smile big_smile big_smile

Both of those may be, but clearly there's some kind of problem. It's odd.

There is one obvious item that I didn't think needed mentioning, but maybe so. Have you tried rebooting? smile

  4. Aficionada profile image80
    Aficionadaposted 12 years ago

    When in doubt, reboot. big_smile

Maybe or maybe not, but that's often the first resort for solving a problem.  In this case, have you tried closing the Word file and opening another one?  (If that had been the problem, I would have thought the glowing cat's Notepad suggestion would have taken care of it.)

Or, just close all windows, and restart your computer.  But only if this is bad enough to warrant trying that.

OMGoodness, how did I miss PS's post?

Well, ty to you all. And Aficionada and PDS, I spent this time rebooting and then copying the text from notepad. I still get that error message on the other thread. I'm convinced, with the input from all of you, that it's not a problem on my part, but on HPs.

Let's see what they have to say.

The long and the short of it is that copied text ought to take fine in a forum post...I copied the text from Word and then from Notepad, and neither worked.

lol The OP in the other thread never got my message, did she? Somehow the means became more important than the end.
