Another plagiarist website getting away with stealing our content

   I have caught yet another plagiarist website that is copying our hubs, and other websites so they can sell Christmas themed merchandise.  I filed a DMCA request with Google, but I am noticing websites doing this out of China seem not to be taken to task, when sites from virtually any other part of the world seem to be taken down when they do this.  I do not want to single anyone out, but if you are writing hubs about Christmas gifts and decorations, you might want to do a Google search to see if this website has duplicated your content.

      I'm really sorry to hear about this SweetiePie. It must be very demoralising after putting in all of that effort. I will say though that google likely recognising your content as the original source and as such will not penalise you, but might penalise them.

      Sweetie Pie - You can name the website so we can see if any of our hubs have also been copied. That is the only way we can find out and get the computer rid of plagiarism. I had a hub copied with China background, and Google went after it. It surprised me, as other countries are sometimes difficult to work with on plagiarism. Good luck in your efforts.

         Actually Brakel2 there is a very easy way to find out- well not very easy- go to any of your hubs and copy 3 lines from any part of it, then google that- if anyone copied it it will show up. You can also use copyscape. Copyscape has a program for watching your content for you (membership) but I don't think that can be used here since we can't embed javascript, but I believe HP uses their own CS membership to do this with our hubs (for their sites own reputation protection) when a hub is copied anywhere they flag it for you, just go into your "my account" page and scroll down.
         
         If you see a copyright symbol (C circled) on any hub click into it and at the top it will say "copied" or something to that effect and you can even see what sites copied it. From there submit the report they link you to and it will issue a take down notice (You have to send it to the site i.e. yahoo answers).
         
         What bites my hyde when they do this is when I want to move a page to a new hub (to use a different url trail/keyword) or move from my site to hubpages- is that it flags it as dupe content- but luckily since it was published here first you can contact HP and they can see when it was published and where (here)... just a hassle.

            You can post links here, just not to your own work.  Self promotion is frowned upon.
            
            Please DO NOT post a link to the thief, however - it will give them a valuable backlink.  Instead, post the link as hxxp blah blah instead of http blah blah.  That way people can copy and paste, then change the x's to t's before searching.

               Well I have been hubbing for four years off and on, and I will say best policy is not to list their link anywhere publicly.  I am playing it more on the classy side.  People who want to really know the link will email me, as I said .  I am a pretty strong cookie when it comes to my principles and all.

   You've probably seen IzzyM's accounts of her experiences with scrapers from China and Google's (non-)response.  I wish there were some way of making Google accountable for the mess they are causing with people's lives and livelihood. 
   
   Not to be picky, but I believe you mean "hawk" (promote) merchandise, rather than "hock" (pawn) it.

      Yea and don't you just love when they pretend to "site" you (give you credit) by putting your name but NO link back to your hub? I don't mind when they take it and post it to their site IF they site my hub (backlink), but when they outright just take it and don't give me a backlink I want to ring their neck.
      
      Keep in mind Google knows when it was stolen FROM you and won't penalize you with dupe content- they will, however penalize THEM since they posted it SECOND. Once published and crawled by Google or any SE it's basically "Google-righted" (copyrighted by google algo as you being the actual author). It's not good to have too many copies of your site out there none the less but the original site never gets docked for others copying it- so long as they crawled it before it was copied!

         I'm new at this too, but you can try copyscape.com Type in the Url of your hub and see if something else pops up.

               I use copyscape and sometimes just search for the hub in Google. That's how I found a plagiarist the first time....

    Fellow Hubber Edweirdo has a fabulous program he created called Hubdefender. This will immediately allow you to see if your hub has been duplicated elsewhere. It does have a fee, but it really is very low and should pay for itself if it allows you to get copied articles removed from other sites.

          You are right, it closed down a few months ago according to Ed. Apparently people were not keen to pay the $8 a month it cost once Panda hit. Shame, it was a good system.

    this is really frustrating to hear. I'm aware there are those that find it easier to steal than do their own work but was under the impression that google would take action against them if caught. Maybe they don't want to make waves with China, just yet. Wouldn't it be ironic to have them steal copy that begged the world not to buy products made in China!!!! get the sites that steal the copy and send them the articles to post.

    Unfortunately, foreign countries do not have to adhere to our copyright laws. I had a Korean site use one of my hubs and could not get it removed.

    I don't want to single any countries out either, but many people who host dodgy sites will register the domain at an offshore hosting account because some countries are lax when it comes to laws. This way emails will go to some company in Asia and their identity won't be discovered
