Help Please!!! How far below the curve am I?

   I have spent a year on hubpages with 42 hubs and a total adsense income of 70 odd dollars and amazon of $6.
   Is this normal?

      We don't really know the answer to that, either.  We can guess and offer advice, but we don't know.  Even on my own stuff, sometimes I have no idea why something is popular and something else is not.
      
      Again. I'd advise you to post some hubs in Extreme Hub Makeover and say there that you are disappointed in income.  There are people who are better at making money than the rest of us and sometimes they will offer advice there.

   For some it is normal, it depends on your subjects and a host of other factors...
   
   If you want to improve start reading up with some of the other hubs about increasing earnings..

   Smart advice. Some of the hubs are written by people with terrifying stats. 2 year, 1,500 hubs!

   I know some hubbers who haven't written an incredible amount of hubs, but who earn far more than some who do.
   
   You're better off focusing on creating fewer hubs that are well researched and built around winning keywords if you are looking for traffic and earnings.
   
   You could have 100 hubs getting 100 views a day each or a single hub with 10,000 views a day (it happens). I suppose my advice would be to concentrate on building a workable SEO and promotion routine, with great content at the center of it all. Volume is meaningless on it's own.

   I feel you pain, I have been a member on HP for 14 months and have written 51 hubs been read over 13,000 times yet still have not hit that magical $100 mark for hubpages ad program and for the most part i have given up on ad sense. On the other hand ebay has proved to be pretty profitable for my hubs and my earnings are just now noticibly increasing. I advise you to go back and improve all your older hubs content, add new links, pictures, videos, reorganize their layout to make them more appealing, simply do everything you possibly can to improve you hubs that are already published and have been for more than 6 months. Also look at other elite hubbers hubs and look at the layout of their hubs and take notes, try to incorperate what they are doing into your own methods as far as layout, and making your hub more visually enticing is concerned.    Ok I looked at a few of your hubs. I think I will add more pictures to my hubs. I haven't had a single ebay sale yet. The amazon sales are totally unrelated to the content of the hubs.
   Go figure

      The large majority of my amazon sales are unrelated to the hub content.  It is not unusual.  Most of what I push is either electronics or tools, yet I have sold bras, licorice candy and both kindle and paper books by the dozen.
      
      If a reader clicks through your link, the cookie is good for 24 hours and anything at all that they buy is credited to you.  Result - you will see sales for nearly everything amazon offers, which is about everything possible to buy (I'm still waiting to sell that Rolls Royce!).

            You bet!  If I'm in a good mood (and who wouldn't be after selling a Rolls?) I'd probably up the ante to $2.

         I'm far from an expert on Amazon expert, but I notice the same thing. 
         
         I have to assume a big part of earning from Amazon is simply getting them to the Amazon site, so your cookie is attached.

            I think you're right.  It will require getting to at least look at what you're offering, which means a good sales pitch, but the biggest effort is just getting them there.
