Are we humans on this planet to work our job, eat, chew the fat, play, take as much as we can then died-is that our purpose because that is not a purpose.

It could be a purpose, but it's a pretty bad choice as a purpose. Is that what you would choose?  Are you saying there are no other choices?

I believe you have to look "within" to find your purpose in life. Some people think they are here to serve mankind whether they are doctors, teachers, ministers, and so forth. Each one of us have a different purpose in life. As a Christian, I do pray and ask the Lord what He wants me to do or His purpose for me. I know that He is using me to be a teacher because that's what I enjoy doing. As for the general population, I guess, you have to ask yourself what is it that you are passionate about and start going that direction. Also, setting goals for yourself to achieve what you really want to do in life can be meaningful, and you would feel that you have something to look forward to. Hope this was helpful.

You forgot drinking beer, the dancing girls, parties and general jollification that people get up to when they don't have their brain inserted in the anus of religion ??   and what about love and humour, and all that goes on regardless that their is not some old duffer spinning the wheels for his personal enjoyment and cruel humour ?

I think life means what you want it to. We of course have a self preservation mindset and as such this results in us striving to find meaning in life. You could argue I suppose that everything we do in life is designed to help us forget that we will eventually die.

Interesting point-of-view, if I were to respond to it I would have to think about what you've just said- nice respond back.

Castlepaloma - I think it's a good attitude "to serve mankind and nature". In modern day life, living in our concrete jungles we isolate ourselves from nature. I often feel the pull towards times when we appreciated what is around us naturally rather than artificially. That's not to say I'm anti constructions and inventions etc. That would just be foolish. I do think there's something to be said for what existed before we started pouring our ideas about how the world should be, directly into it. The ideas that we do have, I feel should be more centered on helping those in need.

Yes. most people have been trapped in the viscous cycle of synthetic, when it is only natural to be happy.within nature

The only real meaning to life is to spread our genetic material in order to continue the species.  Everything else, are additions made by our minds in order to give structure to our days and for the ego to fool itself into believing it is important in the greater scheme of things.  Once our genes have been passed onto the next generation, our ultimate purpose is over, but the ego acts as though there is some other "outside" meaning of which we are all a part.

Why would we need a purpose in life other than what we choose?

Once again interest prospective on the idea of purpose.

I'm getting that purpose is an individual function or process.

We all seem to have our own unique purpose so does this mean purpose only serves us in life only as individuals?  Some people of course can come together with a purpose but it still sort of puts us as individuals from the stand point of saying that group's purpose is so-and-so. Basically people are saying their is no ultimate purpose in life.

      It cannot be anything else.
A purpose doesn't serve self. It serves something greater than self.
Yes, some groups have a purpose. Any intelligent individual can tell what that purpose serves.
      Untrue.

Other than the purpose you make for yourself, which is great because we just happen to be alive to fulfill those purposes, if we so choose.
