After watching this video it would be interesting if we do really have open minds when we go arguing about what we are passionate bout? Gets you thinking anyway.
I question my own opinion that I am "open minded"; although, I do think that word is being over used by people trying to justify their own behavior.
The author of that video seems to be suggesting that passion clouds reason. In the first scenario he described, the lamp's movement was misinterpreted because the guest did not look down to see the fan. The guest's desire to have proof of supernatural forces drove him to jump to a conclusion - according to the author..
My interpretation of that situation would be slightly different. The owner of the lamp had knowledge that the guest did not have. The issue is that the guest did not have observation skills. All the guest had to do was look down and see the fan blowing on the lampshade. The guest did not look down. His perception of what was happening was different from the lamp's owner.
It reminds me of a story of three blind men encountering an elephant for the first time in their lives. One man grabbed the tail and thought it was a rope, One man touched a leg and thought it was a tree. One man touched the trunk and thought it was a big snake.
Since the example deals with an individual, I believe the assignment of passion as the driving force behind the assignment of supernatural forces is as much an assumption as the presence of supernatural forces.
Of course, the author is just making a point. He would have to keep the situation simple and use words to guide our conclusions to do that..
If the other side of an argument makes a convincing case that is compatible with liberty, then, yes, I can change my mind.
It rarely happens.
Jeff Berndt is usually the one who gets my brain-juices flowing the most.
Or at least your perception of liberty.
No I do not have an open mind...
I have lived with the destruction of what the other side is selling. I don't buy a word of it anymore.
You know what they say: experience is the best teacher.
Think that becomes a problem Lovemychris, because we all experience something different. That is why I try to see the other side of things, if I just have my perspective all the time. I think I'd be lost in this world with just about anything I've done in life. My views may change and perspective, because someone shared their experience with me.
I have been called the worst of names, Hattie for disagreeing with that other side...and now I see them treating my choice of president with total disdain and 0 respect....what should I learn from them?
They have nothing to teach me, besides their dis-regard for my point of view.
Maybe the same thing the other side learned when your side showed disdain for their choice of president?
Ummm, what shall I do, return hatred for favor?
The hatred began with them...it will not end with me. This is war.
Think it just depends on the individual you're talking too. I can't disagree with you that there are plenty of negative, naysayers, and people that don't have anything nice to say about anyone. I also know there a diverse population of people that truly are sincere, honest, and respect others. Again it just comes down to who we are talking to, and what experiences we encounter like you said.
Exactly! I have no problem being kind...until you start the smear-machine on overdrive. (not you personally...the collective you)
I don't get into politics because I know from working with people in the public in my own area neither the democratic or republican's are concerned about the people. More about lining their pockets with cash.
You show total hatred for Bush and the Republicans and you complain about them treating Obama with disdain............? Wow!
Errr, NO..I'm saying they have nothing to teach me that I don't already know from them...100 times over. Don't blame me. They showed themselves with their first smear-maker (can't think of his name!...of Willie Horton fame) and now the likes of Russsshhhhhh.
I'll not return love for hate. I'm not the Christian...you people are supposed to be! At least you claim it.
hmm...well I see you are talking about what ever conversation is going on in another forum. lol Well haven't read which forum that is from to understand where you're coming from. But I see logic and and couture must be from there.
No.As you just read the forum suject, your diverts toward that direction. So there is no question of open mindedness.
Yes, I noticed that too. Probably would have been better to use electricity for example. If there was a short in the wires could cause the light to flicker, while someone may assume it is supernatural. But again if there is no short, or explanation for electricity flickering lights, there would be no explanation.

I think not.The Help Forum, and Official HubPages Announcements should be open to them until they create at least one hub, at which time Extreme Makeover, Report a Problem or Suggest a New Feature and Suggest Report a Problem or Suggest a New Feature might open. After 5, open 30 Hubs in 30...

Are you able to keep an open mind when it comes to talking about religion with other people. There are many topics talking about religious beliefs, and many of them tend to turn into a heated argument. I am a Christian, and I am strong in my faith, but I tend to keep an open mind and have a good...

Someone from Trump's inner circle wrote an op ed in NYT, saying what Never Trumpers and others have said for 2 years? What will happen in the next 90 days? Will GOP Congress investigate?

When the mind is separated from the body - the state known as transcorporeal - it has been reported that all coverings are removed from the Light.People who have had near death experiences report seeing a light. What does it take to achieve such states intentionally? Meditation?
