How do you go from making pennies to making dollars on hubpages? I have only written 5 hubs but I don't want to waste anymore time. I have tried reddit with very little success. I try adding cool pictures from creative commons, but no luck. I am about to throw in the towel.
    Please help
    Robert

Six weeks and you want to throw in the towel, it took me six months to start earning and eight months to make payout.. over eighty hubs... which has grown and is now helping me reach payout every month.. Patience  is a great virtue online smile Welcome to Hubpages.

I haven't been around much longer than you, but I know I can't make any money until I've made my first $100...and I am far from that.  However, I have learned so much, and I keep learning.  Every time I learn something new, I apply it to my hubs...and it always improves them.  I never expected to get rich doing this, still don't...but I'm enjoying the people here and don't feel I'm wasting my time because my voice is being heard, and that is very important to me.  Hang in there...keep writing...keep learning...you'll get there if you give it a chance.  By the way, to date I've written 42 hubs.

You write on HubPages at about the same pace I do.  At that pace, if you're hubs are anything like mine, you'll make a few cents each month (like me).

Almost everyone that has had any success says either write more here or try another platform.

Six weeks is barely enough time to be noticed by google for it to start sending you traffic...

This job is like any other, the harder you work, the more you learn the higher your wage...  a handful of hubs over six weeks is not going to make you rich overnight....

Read the learning center (bottom left of the page)
Read hubs about SEO, keyword research, competition, hubpages itself... (Search top right.)

Work hard and after a few months you may start to make payout on a regular basis..

If you expect to be able to just throw a few words at the page and google will throw money at you then go back to the day job...

If you write in saturated topics (ones everyone is writing about) or ones no one is searching (you can rank #1 in Google for "Purple Pigeon Poop" but if no one is searching it, it's worthless) you will never get anywhere.

It takes an average of six months to "learn the ropes" of choosing good topics. Pictures do very little to increase views, and promoting a hub which is never going to get anywhere won't help you either.

There are millions of people trying to earn money online. It doesn't just fall into your lap, y'know!

I still don't make any money and I don't know why
I think the rules for making money are dumb because why would I want to write about only specific topics to make money like products, or "how to make money" etc, when I prefer to write about health?
My writing skills are good, I have high personal score, I think things are too complicated in the money making rules.

Schoolgirlforreal, there are many health topics that could help you make money.   You need to find what people want to read about, Keywords are important and you have to ensure that what you write reaches people. You just have to think laterally, use the keyword tool to make what you write reachable to your audience.
Writing on health topics is a challenge as you may lack the qualification or authority that you could have as a medical professional. You could still make things work with a lot of research and not just your opinions. I haven't read your hubs on health, I am making a generalized statement.

I enjoy what I do and still make money... I never write on some subject because it is high paying. I make what I write pay.. just a little more effort involved, that is about all smile  Enjoy your writing! smile

Well that is a choice you are making, but there must be some topics out there that you would enjoy writing about that will make you some money.  Have a look at the Google keywords tool and see what results you get for your favourite topics.

Unfortunately, if money is your goal, you will will have to play by the rules of the web and not the other way around.

I'm still really keyword tool illlterate after all this time. My brain freezes about these things, might be why I make no money.

How do I look at the tool and see?

Absolutely.. for me this is a matter of personal choice because that is what my life is about. But even here there are topics that bring me decent money and I make good use of them.

Interesting topics, good writing, or, maybe another hubber would buy your computer.  I haven't made a dime but I love it just the same.  Where else can you rant and rave and get graded for it?

Sofs is right, you have to be patient...very patient.  It took me 8 months to reach pay-out as well.  In the meantime, do some challenges.  Write good quality, ORIGINAL hubs on subjects people want to read about.  If you have a special interest shared by many other people, write about it. However, even if you do start making money, unless you have literally 100's of hubs up and write for many different places, you're not going to earn enough to make a decent living right away.  It takes years for that, so if that's what you're looking for, sorry, not happening!

With any content site you need to write a lot and post a lot before you will start getting a payment every 1-2 months.
