Just joined and am working on my first hub, but have lots of questions. There is SO much information in the learning center, it really is overwhelming. Is there somewhere I can find some kind of a "glossary"? I'm not clear on the exact meanings of a number of terms used. Also, do I have to wait to get Google Adsense, and if so, why? Finally, I"m always open to any tips people my have. Thanks.

Hubpages FAQ will help you lot, meanwhile just keep writing and exploring. There are many hubs written by our fellow hubbers which will surely help you.

Anyway Welcome here on HP s-albee. smile

I don't think Toolsonline has anything to teach you. "Most things are very simple" doesn't really mean anything. Everyone confirms they have read and agreed to the rules when signing up. Judged by his current avatar image, a human face turned upside down, he has little understanding of this site or its values.

Here is an excerpt from Section 4 of the Terms of Use:

      "RESTRICTIONS AND PROHIBITIONS ON USE
In Your use of the Service You must abide by the following restrictions and prohibitions on use. As a Service User or Author, You may Not:

Publish Hubs or Hub or Author Content that include any content or links that are...vulgar.. or is otherwise offensive."

It remains to be seen whether the moderators will accept such a profile image. Personally, I do not think that it should be allowed.

Welcome to HubPages. Perhaps the closest you will come to a "glossary" is the Frequently Asked Questions. It is advisable to publish some hubs prior to applying for Adsense. Other than that, start preparing some hubs, which isn't too complicated, then take your time to look around. And ask some more questions.

    Welcome to the hubbing community!!

Yes, there is a lot of information to digest all at once; but, taking one piece at a time will allow you to wade through it.

It's great that you're writing your first hub.  I refered to the help centre quite often when I first began.  Also, posting for help in the forums is a great way to receive feedback.

WE is correct -- wait until you publish a few hubs before applying for Adsense.  smile

    Happy hubbing!

    Welcome to HP,

When you need help, ask for it.  Whenever I have needed help, people have been very helpful as long as I am specific and clear in my question.

Keep writing, have fun, and keep looking around.  Looking forward to reading your hub.

Welcome to the site - I'm fairly new as well, and I very much relate to the overwhelming amount of information available (the good news is that there's plenty of information to be found!).

One thing that helped me was to do a site-search for something when I came upon new terms or other things for which I needed clarification. Chances are, you will find several hubs or forum posts covering much of the topic. Then, if you have further questions, you can always post a question for the forum group.

There's a big learning curve simply for monetization (my writing had always been for publications or other paid assignments). Again, you will find a ton of hubs on various topics related to getting enrolled with the earnings programs.

As for using the content management system (the templates that let us publish hubs), you can find many hubs on that as well, and the other way to learn is through clicking around and giving everything a try. You might want to create a 'learning tool' hub for yourself just for practice. That way, you can experiment with adding capsules, learning to use the tools and seeing what works for you. You don't have to publish the practice hub - but you can see how it would look in various formats and play with the publishing tools.

Good luck - I look forward to reading your hubs!

Thanks for the great ideas. I've been doing some of those things, so it's nice to hear I'm moving in the right direction.

One more thing - ditto on WE's guidance to publish a few hubs before applying for AdSense.

Just jump right on in and try - using HP is fairly straight forward and most things are very simple...

    Read the rules first though!!

Thank you, all. (So sorry I didn't respond sooner as I had to be away unexpectedly)

Write an article and post it. You can edit as you go... and thankfully, you can go back as many times as you wish to tweak your hubs Remember text capsules are for text, video capsules for video and etc...welcome and good luck

s-albee, do utilize the forums when you find the 'rules' obscure.  I have found countless hubbers willing to assist me when the seemingly 'legalese' to be incomprehensible!  Folks here are just folks!
