Question about how comments are displaying differently

   I've noticed that comments on some hubbers hubs are showing the latest comments on the top. My comments have always read the opposite. Is there a new way to view comments? Is this a new feature or an anomaly?

      You can set how they display when you edit your hub in your comment capsule. Greg

         Aha....so there is an option. I was just wondering but I am going to keep mine reading last to first as you scroll down because I too think it's too confusing the other way.
         
         I have readers who surprisingly read the whole comment thread (which can be 5 times as long as the hub itself) and it would be confusing for them too I think to change it. Reads easier the old way!

   I like the comments on my hubs to post from first to last.  I think it is confusing to read them backwards.  When I read other writers' hubs, I like to read the comments in order to keep up with the thread.  It would be like posting the last comment first on this forum post. I think that would be kind of silly, don't you?

      I agree.  Some Hubbers make their comments in such a way that I can't tell who they are responding to.  Wish everyone would at least type in the commenter's name.

      I'm with you, Connie.  Last comment first is confusing.  If it was introduced to save time for hub surfers, it totally missed the mark.  Unless we're making a comment from the Feed for a hub we've already read and are familiar with, we still have to scroll past all of the previous comments to get to the Comments box to make one, so what's the point?

   The big problem with having the oldest comments at the top is that people may think your article is irrelevant because of age. If they see a newest comment instead of one that is three years old, they're more likely to hang around and interact or read.

      You make a good point but at this point I think it would be too odd to change it up. I'll have to think on what you said though - that does make sense.

         Yep, HP recommended newest comments first for the freshness factor. Made sense.  For folks that want to really peruse the comments it shouldn't make any difference.

      There's an idea.  Maybe after a time - and especially since Hubpages love those evergreen hubs -- that the date of the comment could be hidden, or maybe even better, the date is hidden from view and in order to see the dates, the prospective commenter would have to click on a box at the END of the comments.  In that case, he or she would be more likely to leave a comment without checking dates.

         I read somewhere here that it is better to have your comments upside down so that the latest come in at the top, but I can't remember why.
         
         I do note that many of the more successful hubbers have theirs set that way, but it must just be me, I prefer to see comments displayed the correct way up.
         
         If it's just because visitors will think the hub is newer than it is, that doesn't make a lot of sense to me because the visitor that has read down that far isn't interested in the date. Assuming they have read it, and not skipped it to go to the comments section. Which isn't likely, unless they are another hubber.

            I often skip to the comments section, especially when searching specific information where I just can't get a decent answer anywhere I look. In the comments someone else either asks or offers more information, or the author adds further posts.
            
            But maybe that's just me!

   I hate it, but at least here we still have a choice.  At Wizzly they force you to have newest first.
