Campaigns for the seat of the President of The United States of America should concentrate on issues of national importance, not local and personal issues. The President of The United States of America is the leader of the free world not a community organizer. Campaigns should reflect that.

Would you mind expanding a bit?  I'm not sure what you want to discuss, exactly.  I'm pretty sure that most people agree that campaigns should concentrate on issues of national importance, and especially not personal issues.  However, it seems that many people gravitate toward the trivial, especially if it can be used to demonize the opposition.  I believe the corporate media is complicit in this trivialization of the campaigns and that we, the people, feed into it by focusing on non-issues, like Hilary Rosen's recent comments or Ted Nugent's stupid rants.

That's true and I agree. Even in some of these forums you see the pettiness that has no place in the campaign for the most powerful position in the free world. The other part that I was mentioning in the original post was that the candidates tend to engage in this also. Not one person among us is better than the next, but it should be that elected officials and those who expect to be elected should hold themselves to higher adult standards.

      Leader of the free World!

How come I don't get a vote then?
Or does the free world begin and end with the USA?

I don't know who you are first, so I don't know why you didn't vote. The free world consists of any and all who are free of tyranny. Sense the US has been the largest champion  of freedom in the world the free world has called the President's seat the most powerful seat in the free world. Not my words, but I'll gladly repeat them. So. Is there anything else you want to ask me.

Nor is president a vulture capitalist shark, proposing laws that will increase his own bank account.

Community organizer is actually perfect for the job. What more adverse group of people are there than the people of the United States?

You see, name calling is something that belongs on the playground with children who don't know any better. If a person wants to join in on an adult conversation they should speak like adults, not like children on a playground. I know this will annoy a few people out there but I would like to hear some intelligent, coherent remarks. Comments that reflect thought and not just random name calling.

Oh, you mean like "community organizer"??

Or is that allowed, but "vulture capitalist shark" not?

Commnity organizer is a legitimate title of a profession. The other is not

I hate these campaigns as they always get ugly and dig up trash on each other. I would like to see the candidates focus on the issues that will help this country dig out of this hole we are in and I would like to not receive any political phone calls!

    Romney's "Hero":

"MADISON – Jobs data today released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that under Scott Walker, Wisconsin lost 4,500 more jobs in March.

The job loss figures, buried on the second page of the release from Scott Walker’s Department of Workforce Development, show that Wisconsin lost 4,500 jobs in March 2012, including 4,300 in the private sector, and a total of 23,900 jobs since this time last year.

In total, Wisconsin has lost jobs 10,200 since Scott Walker took office."

    Coherent enough?

I think the campaign is to let us know what kind of man/woman we are about to get. We need one set of rules for everybody. Name calling is for people that know nothing else
Look over the responses we already have and you see it creeping in. This is not because you don't know better, it is because you think it is cute, or you can slip something in to hurt.
We should have a good hot campain and let the chips fall where they may.Dem or Gop it turns me off when you start to muck rake.
Things we were for we go against if the other party wants it. We go against their family and friends. We try to hide bad conduct under the cover. No one has all the answers.

What's wrong with this as a discussion?

Nothing, I agree that having been a community organizer is a good first step to being a president, but only a step. A community organizer deals with issues of only a few thousand people in a community. If there are rabble rousers, the police can be called to handle it.
The president deals with the issues of millions plus deals with the international community, part of whom would rather see our country explode than deal with us. The president cannot bow to people like this while turnng their back on longtime allies. The rabble rousers on the world stage want to and are capable of, wiping out entire nations with one bomb. Community organizing is one step, not the whole walk.

Ummm, he was also a professor, and a US Senator....
And he has experienced other cultures first hand, not read about them.
I don't know where you are coming from, but I have been up-lifted by his presence on the world stage, whereas the former prez used to make me cringe.
And the current Repub candidate makes me run for cover.

I will soften the label I used for him to the "correct" term: Corporate Raider.
How is that any type of qualification for president of the United States?

Hubert Williamsposted 11 years agoin reply to this

Corporate raider is not a good qualfication for the office, but it does show experience with crashing finances. I think that Barack Obama is a fine man and a great father and husband. I just don't feel that he has done the country a good turn. I hold you in no fault for believeing him to be one of the greats. No single person or body of people can satisfy the entire country. I am not saying that Mitt Romney will be the perfect president, but at the moment I feel more comfortable with him.

Well Hubert...I will address you with respect and dignity as you do me.

However--I reserve the right to fight fire with fire, and not be held to a different standard than the flame throwers on the other side.

And that goes for presidential candidates as well.
And their supporters, be they public figures or private.

It seems to me that a lot of people are like this:
"That liberal panty waste and idiot....."
        but then,
"He just called me a conservative goon....I cry foul!"

        Dish it out, take it!
        Don't dish it out---you won't get it.   That's fair, isn't it?
