free markets, what does that really mean?...it's not what we have now...there is something called the natural law of supply and demand...it's not what we have now...true capitalism...it's not what we have now

If I wanted to scare Americans into believing their future is hopelessly doomed if they didn't vote for Ron Paul....I think I would produce a film like this one that promotes nothing but fear of unknown conspirators and doesn't offer a single shred of evidence that anything they are saying if even true.

I was hoping for something containing real facts.

America is probably THE most capitalist nation on earth and considering its conditions (good population spread, mineral wealth, oil, political stability and lack of war damage) it is one of the countries doing worst in the modern economic climate so from that I would take that the problem is the opposite of what you describe.

Hey, Josak. I do agree that the US is not doing great, or even fair, right now, but like already established I don't believe socialism is the way to go. The problems aren't opposite, they are all across the spectrum and need to addressed on a variety of levels.

Socialism is myth thrown out to scare people like the communicst menace or the war on terror. I've been all over and never met one. There are no socialist writing in the newspapers or magazines. And socialist are out of power in most of the world. If someone wants to name call and say big spenders are socialist, then Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush as socialists.

Hello, Josak. It is nice to exchange ideas with you.

Some experts disagree with your assessment that the US “is one of the countries doing worst in the modern economic climate.” America is actually performing significcantly better than most other industrialized countries today.

In the private sector, American corporations are healtier now than before the recession. An in-depth study conducted by the Wall Street Journal shows profits, sales, and employment numbers for S&P firms are higher today than 2007 levels. (1)

Furthermore, Walter Russell Mead, historian and op-ed contributor to the Wall Street Journal, observed in his article “The Myth of America’s Decline” that other industrialized nations may have grown in influence but the U.S. remains the global “Chairman of the Board.” (1)

The WSJ does not stand alone. A Reuter’s study in Janurary concluded “the United States, meanwhile, should continue to contribute modest growth that will easily outpace its recession-hit European peers.”  (2)

So, it seems, Josak, capitalism is alive and healthy in the US. We Americans are in better shape than the rest of the world but not all of us know it.

Sure, the wealthy and the corporations are doing fine. But I think we're talking the decline of the middle class, and the fact that it's easier to move up economically in any of the other industrial nations.

            Hey Doc,
I understood Josak's comment to apply to the economic climate and not to class mobility which is an another issue.

To be honest I was referring to both, The US's growth is very low, debt is beyond crazy and the poverty does nothing but increase, the quality of life in the US has fallen consistently for years compared to other nations, it is currently #13 in quality of life an this year will be passed by New Zealand to make it #14, I agree Quilligrapher that there is a tendency to exaggerate crisis etc in the 24 hour media world we live in (just for lack of things to talk about) but there are definite indicators of decline, from unemployment to the lowering of the credit rating, furthermore the US is increasingly losing international alliances and friends (Obama has helped the world wide image a little) where once all of South America was American economic territory it has universally gone socialist and now actively rejects trade with the US unless it is on extremely favorable terms, Egypt was once a great ally now not etc.

The US has been surpassed in many ways by countries that have no economic right to do so, countries like Norway which has been devastated by war, has little natural resources and a small population and more than a dozen others have also surpassed the US, I am not denying that the US is till powerful, perhaps still the chairman of the world but that situation is increasingly shaky.

Yes, Josak. You make many great points albeit some are rather arbitrary. Quality of life, for example, can be highly subjective. I view unemployment levels and the lowering of the government’s credit rating not as indicators of decline but as evidence of corporate greed and congressional malfeasance.

There are no “friends” on the world’s political landscape. Alliances are based on power and common interests and there certainly was a pressing need for President Obama to repair our seriously damaged image abroad after eight years of Bush-Cheney foreign policies.

I have also observed several trends over the last 50 years that I think have led us to today’s social realities. One is the rapid decline in respect paid by businesses to American workers for their contributions. That respect has been shifted to machines and the workers are now considered expendable.

Another shift occurred in our economic model. It no longer circulates wealth among all of our citizens. Instead, today’s economy has been carefully designed to cause wealth to only gravitate upward from the poorest among us to the very wealthy. As I see it, this explains, as you said, “poverty does nothing but increase.” Furthermore, this is also a reasonable justification for more progressive taxation. Recognizing a built in class bias is not waging class warfare.

The system, however, is not the only culprit. I see a society of mindless lemmings following each other in the pursuit of rampant materialism. Individually, we sacrifice our own financial security to accumulate more “stuff.” Casting patience and sound planning aside, we want as much as we can buy and we want it now!

I submit my opinions to you at no charge. They are probably worth a lot less. lol  Stay well, Joask, and be happy.

The problem with america's capitalism is that it goes towards the worst of both worlds, as  in socialist and capitalist. On one hand the government is gaining too much power, on the other the wealth gap is growing so large that the wealthy have too much influence over the government, which has too much control over individuals. much reform will be necessary to make America truly the land of the free.

Well, with GOP2012, excluding Ron paul, I agree. But partisan soundbites don't do much to improve the situation.
