Duplicate Content - How long does it take with a 301 redirect?

    I had a blog that had really good content, but didn't do really well because of a horrible domain name. When I purchased the domain I knew very little about SEO.

    Anyway, I took a few of the best posts on that blog and made Hubs out of them. I also created a 301 redirect from each post on my blog to each corresponding hub.

    How long will it take for the hubs I made to no longer be marked as duplicate content?

      Hi Melanie and welcome.  I believe HubPages only does the duplicate scan occasionally, so the mark won't disappear until they do the next scan. I wouldn't worry about it though.

      A while ago, I deleted all the posts off my old blog and re-posted them on Today.com.  At the time, Today was paying $1 per post but it had to be original content (and they checked every single post before they paid).   

      There was only a week or so between me deleting my posts and reposting them on Today, and several people told me that even though I'd deleted the posts, they would be on the internet "forever" in caches and archives etc, so it wouldn't work.  But it did!  I know they were checking, too, because I also posted a couple of my Helium articles (which I can't delete).  I thought I'd made enough changes to avoid the dup content filter - but I hadn't, because they picked it up straight away.

    If the content is actually still up on your blog, your Hubs will always be marked as duplicate content.

      No, I took the content down and left the pages up, but they are blank.

        Just make sure you use htaccess and 301 redirect those links. do not allow search engines to see your old pages. after that i will take the next google crawl of your old site. The best way would be to make hotlinks to your hubs using relevant keywords.

    I most probably would have rephrased the old pages using synonyms and rewording and then republished as unique content.
