ok,.... i'll chime in,..... i am NOT disgusted with the people of this country,.... i am NOT angry that the democrats won,...... i AM TERIBLY ANGRY that the republicans knowingly willingly LOST,........ good grief this was an election that any ANY good candidate could have won,...... but the RICH GOP elite FORCED an equally rich skinny ass uptight moron upon the grass roots republicans that we did NOT want.

we knew the fix was in from the start,.... it was no secret that the caucus process in MO was DESIGNED to hand the state to romney,..... the high toned attitude that local party officials and rank and file were subjected to by those from the state level was REPULSIVE,.... the grass roots conservative was dismissed as a bumkin and our votes were discounted...... the powers that be got exactly what they planned and kanived for .........

and now,...... they have 4 more years of fear mongering and screaming and obstructing,...... all while still making millions off the backs of the middle class,..... conservative republicans included,...

i dont want to take america back,.... its still ours,.... i want my GOP back!

i want to take the title of "conservative" back from morons who wouldnt deserve to sit in the same room with Ike or TR!

i wana have a beer and stop being water boarded with TEA!

I wana unwrap the american flag from around the fat ass’s that have shrouded themselves in it for far too long and reveal the greed and self promotion tattooed on their bodies!

I want my party back!, the party of Lincoln, Grant, McKinley, Roosevelt, Eisenhower,…. These men couldn’t get nominated in today’s GOP,…. What has happened to my Grand Old Party?

Perhaps now my beloved party will take a moment to pause,… take a deep breath,….. And decide who we want to be,…. And what kind of america we want to fight for…………….

Or,……………. We’ll exchange tea for koolaid and self destruct

I want my party back, too! I'm not sure we want the same things, though. I want more moderates - fiscal conservatives and liberal/moderate on social issues. I want people willing to compromise with the other side - unlike most of the TEA Party.

You know who's the most fiscally conservative and most socially liberal? Ron Paul and the libertarians! Maybe Republicans should open their minds a little.

I really felt deceived by the candidate choice the GOP made on this one also. I am an independent and I wanted something other than Obama in '08 but they gave us McCain/Palin. The outrageous stuff that came out of their mouths was impossible to digest. So I went with Obama as the only grown up in the room. The choice with Romney was obviously a figurehead as they had with Bush. Romney could have just attacked Obama on the economy, lack of balanced budget, no immigration reform, troop surges instead of withdrawel promises, Guantanamos' closing broken promise etc. But instead the Romney attacks were set against Obama on dead issues. The improving economy was a non item as shown from the polls. Getting snarled up in gay marriage and abortion issues as the GOP has attacked in the past with a changed electorate. And the most detrimental thing he did was get caught in so many flip flopping lies.
If the GOP could have looked at Huntsman or even Paul as their savior but I know Paul could not be bought by the Tea Party.

        ditto!

a lack of courage on the part of the GOP led them to choose romney,.... he was the "next in line" he was safe,.... and greed,... he was and remains filthy rich,...........

a lack of courage on the part of the DNC in 2004 cost them dearly,.... if they had stuck with howard dean instead of going with the safe rich guy in kerry,..... they woulda won,...... but howard dean was the brains at the DNC that got Obama elected in 2008..... and he still doesnt get the credit he deserves for it.

GOP needs a reboot. They have 4 years to do it. This could be a golden opportunity for them to make a land grab for the centre. They've now got the perfect narrative: "4 years ago the American people spoke, and we listened". It could be fantastic for them, but only if the change is genuine, not superficial.

Listening to Boehner's speech about the fiscal cliff doesn't exactly fill me with confidence though. Sounds like code for just playing the same old games.

    RIght on, SJC and Habee.
I think the dismay is on both sides of the aisle.
Watching the other party being hijacked is probably not quite as disconcerting as being a member of that party. However, the implications of that radical shift affect all of us. There are so many things about what we just lived through in this election cycle that leave us going, "Did I dream that, or was it really as crazy as it seemed?"

Morning post-mortems on the news stations is about a "day of reckoning" that has to happen in the GOP.
Defeating the likes of Akin and Mourdock sent a message.
Michele Bachmann barely retained her seat.
Pro equality measures passed in states across the country.

Is the extreme right power balance already shifting back to sanity?
Sure hope so for you guys and for all of us!

Meanwhile, might I suggest a hubber homework assignment for ALL OF US.
"Lincoln" comes out on November 16th.
Let's all go see it and refresh (or "reset" in the vernacular of the election) ourselves.
And come back here and talk about what can/should happen going forward.
How will the GOP adapt to radically shifting demographics in America?

It's not too early to start making 2016 predictions -- is it?
    lol lol

the demographics question is a HUGE thing for the future of the GOP...... they are playing the game by rules that are 20 years outa date,..... like invading a forigne country with a 20 year old map,............ the electorate that they have pandered to for years is litteraly dying off en`mas...... and with the "strides" made by those same idiotic stooges,... they've battled voter fraud to the point that thier dead GOP voters can no longer vote.............. now thats karma

i am a republican,.... i serve on the county central commitee,.... former officer on the central commitee,..... and i'm stunned by moy own people.

i'm pro life,..... in fact i'm sooooo damn pro life i agravate pro-lifers,..... they make no exception for rape or incest?.... fine..... i oppose capital punishment,... i win!

i love animals and work dilligently to see that no one harms animals or miss treats them on my watch,...... but i dont afford the same spiritual and ethical position to a cow that i would my son.

i couldnt care less if same sex couples want to get married,.... hell.... let 'em suffer like the rest of us............. in fact............ i think the government should get out of the mariage buisness all together and just issue domestic partnership contracts.... and suport even more tax breaks for households that arent single,..... its green.

i'm ALL for getting government out of our lives and our wallets,...... as soon as you get government out of my bedroom, my mariage, my pulpit and outa my vagina while your at it.

I agree with everything you said, so you're not alone. Personally, I'm pro-life, but I think abortion should be legal when done early. Like you, however, I want LESS government intrusion. Would it be easier for us to just start a new party? That might be easier than changing the current GOP. lol

Oh...I also agree with you on Huntsman.

the new party idea is why i voted for a the libertarian gary johnson this time round,..... but the dems and repubs have a strangle hold on the system,... i'm not sure what it will take to break it,..... the country as a whole will have to wake up and vote "neither" one cycle and elect people from a 3rd party in order for it to happen,...... and then you run the risk of the rich deciding to back the new kids on the block and within 2 election cycles your back to where you started.

i'm very dissalusioned these days,......... hate to sound like a freek but anarchy is looking realy good to me right now

I have watched through the years as conservatives have been silenced by the mantra of political correctness, and political leaders with honest opinions have made compromises to their policies and  buckled under to pressure from today's liberal social attitudes. I was a Chris Christie fan until I watched him fold up and his true lack of character come to the forefront. I agree that Romney was a poor choice to throw into the face of today's young society, but the social atmosphere had been prepared for the last four years. I am not an Independent. I am a Republican. If someone cringes at that - so be it. I don't believe in abortion, socialism, big government, or the persecution of the businesses that forged our country. Unfortunately, we no longer live in the political atmosphere of Grant, Teddy, and Eisenhower, and our leaders cannot politically afford to speak their minds. We have two choices, join the liberal buggy ride or lose.

agree completely,.... and unfortunately the right wing conservative respnse has been (succesfully to a degree) to act and behave just like the opposition,..... our GOP is now tilted so wildly to the right that independants (back bone of the electorate) cant come to our side in good concience,.... and the Dems have been so wildly tilted to the left by thier liberal hijackers over 4 decades that independants often cannot vote that way in good faith iether,........ so the time is RIPE for a 3rd option,..... but getting the 3rd option financed so that the sheep like masses will see them on the flat screen shrine is another matter,..... the money is behind the status quo..... and if your not on TV,..... the sheep wont see you,.... and you wont exist.

I want the GOP back.  The party of Dole.  The party of Kemp.  And yes, even the party of Reagan.  And I am a liberal.

Why do I want them back?  Because I believe in the Constitution.  Because I believe in America.  We all need the GOP to be a governing party again instead of a party of obstruction.  We need serious thoughtful people to lead the party again so the Country can get things done.  As much as the GOP hated Bill Clinton, they worked with him and the Country was better for it.  and those GOP members brought ideas to the table instead of threats.  They brought solutions.  On some issues they brought an open mind.  On others they stuck to their values but at least their was an honest debate.  And that group impeached Clinton while at the same time getting a lot of stuff done.

At the very least that GOP respected the voters and the Office.  We need them back because there are huge problems that need everyone to work towards a solution.  Having more obstruction helps nobody get a job.  More obstruction does nothing to defend this Country.  More obstruction does nothing to help the people of NY and NJ recover.   More obstruction does nothing to educate a child.

God bless you bgpappa. You hit it right on the head. In the past, Presidents on both sides held the office in respect. They also shied away from name calling, derisive jokes about any American that dared to disagree with them, and becoming a late night rock star to impress America's youth. They also loved their country, truly loved it, and the Constitution. In a nutshell, they realized that being the President was a grown up's job.

stclairjack, Good for you! I have been saying that Republicans need to take their party back, it has been hijacked by the far right, Tea Party. Habee and I have talked about Huntsman before, If they ran Huntsman, they would have won...I am a Democrat, but may have voted for Huntsman....My personal beliefs are very conservative and truly line up close with Republicans, two things have always made me a Democrat, I truly believe it is wrong to judge others according to my personal faith; and I truly want to help all people and preserve our planet....Also, I feel not only do you not mix business with pleasure, but you do not mix it with religion, I have said this a lot this election season, Seperation of Church and State is the fundamental difference between us and the extremist countries in the Mideast.

I am loving the ideas and passion on this thread. I do hope you and others that are like-minded can save your party or invent a new one, a new R party that pushes them out...Their extreme social ideas freaks me out and sounds like German propaganda from the 30's....moderate R's are really the best ideology for the future, someone strong in Foriegn Affairs and fiscaly conservative, yet preserves the earth, takes care of its people and, stays out of people's personal business, now I have always called this a Democrat with brass ones, lol, but it could also be likened to a Republican with a giant heart I guess, I think now that I have said that outloud that is truly what I am, and I vote democrat everytime...

i get so very frustrated where i live and watching the news,.... the only people who get air time on the flat screen shrine are the shrill circle flyers that drive ratings up in the same way live executions would,.... the only people who get suported in a bid for party leadership are the parrotts,.... the only people who get voted into office in my rural part of the universe are the ones who have the time to knock on every door 3 times between primary and general, standing on the poorch crying and prommissing,.............

i've tried fixing it from the inside out,.... served as an officer on our county central commitee for 2 years,.... the chairman and i were both moderate level heads that tried hard to suport candidates localy,............. we watched helplessly as the bulk of the committee and the party regular suported obnoxious candidates for office that inevitably lost,... or failed to suport those that could have won and done the job well,.. because they didnt play parrott,............. now myself and others have watched our local party fall into the hands of the loudest parrotts,..... i've washed my hands and stepped back to a degree,

through no help from the new central com leadership we managed to unseat a 12 yr encumbant sherriff, ..... no small feat in a county of 9000 people,... 6000 registered voters,.... but that same commitee leadership now crows over the victory.

Keep fighting the good fight, Stclairjack. Change from the inside out is the only way and your efforts will bear fruit. Grassroots is not dead and never will be.
But those at the tippy top (holding the purse strings) need to wake up and smell the coffee.
The tide is going to turn -- cooperation and sanity will have to return to your party.
Maybe the TP should be the ones who break off and form a third party. Their attempt to hijack the Republican Party has had dire consequences and is now backfiring on them.

Here's a little inspirational anthem for you to play loud the next time one of those bozos comes knocking on your door.

That is a fabulous idea! I would about bet there are more conservatives that agree with you...I was watching a youngman speak on some talk show recently, he alligned himself with the conservative party, however being 22 yrs old, he did not agree with their social agendas, this young man is the future of your party...all you need is a head of steam, and it truly sounds like you have that covered! There is a man on the hub named Jim Brown, he goes by themanwithnopants...check him out, he has an organization that he began in order to fight coruption in Washington, as of late he is talking along the lines of a new party...

Bob Dylan sang, "You're gonna have to serve somebody."
    It's reckoning time.
    Who does your party serve?
Is serving those interests sustainable in 2012 forward?

I agree with well stated positions above.
If what your political party is serving (and serving up to you) does not meet YOUR needs, then you can either
    a) accept the parts of their agenda that do fit you and pay no mind to the radical frings
    b) rethink your relationship with your party and consider going Independent
    c) help shape your party's future to be more relevant and vital

Not to resort to a cliche, but it fits. The only way out for GOP's current identity crisis is FORWARD.

Habee, I hear you on fiscal conservatism and moderation on social issues.  That has merit as long as there is a fiscal balance in terms of what we can "socially" afford.  This is the problem today....we spend far more than we can afford or can even tax to cover.  Politicians have used taxpayer revenue to buy votes and those social programs are forever welded into place since the days of LBJ.  The tragedy of it all is that Social Security and Medicare could have been solid provider programs with a strong base of financial backing had politicians not been allowed to "borrow" that money and squander it on other pork-barrel areas.  In effect, they have stolen those assets which rightfully belonged to the people who have paid into them all their working lives.  That is lousy fiscal responsibility on either side of the aisle and until we hold those we send to represent us accountable, it will continue. There is a price to be paid for a multi-party system in that there are no provisions in the electoral process for anything less than a majority.  At the present neither conservatives or liberals are willing to chance losing elections to get an alternative party off the ground.  Ralph Nader and others have shown how difficult that effort can be.  By all rights the Liberatarian Party should be growing but it does not attract liberals in any great number because the primary focus is fiscal responsibility and less government intervention in our lives.  Government is a self-fulfilling prophecy....the large it gets, the large it has to be in order to justify its existence.  Government, like the fiscal budget, should be managed toward minimization as opposed to maximization...a concept which politicians cannot grasp.  Most of our troubles come from our own public apathy since WWII....we have allowed politicians to run rampant, squander money, and engage in lying and deceit without accountability.  These issues should be bi-partisan as either side should want honest, effective, and efficient government.  Some priority is going to have to come to that focus or we will never get out of this rut until we crumble.  ~WB
