Do you believe the US. Congress will ever accomplish anything again ?

   A 6 to 10 percent approval rating , graft,   corruption, greed , ego and  narrcissism, abounds !  And thats just all thats out  in the open , congress has openly declared war on  leadership!   The white house has morphed into a usless particpant to the system of  checks and balances , the power of the supreme court is  a myth!     Is it time to rise up and demand more  from our country or are Americans too  busy watching T.V. right now ?

      People are too zoned out watching reality tv to realize anything is wrong.  They get their 30 minutes of news from MSM and think they are informed. 
      Every person in washington from the white house down needs to just do us a favor and resign.

      9% approval rating, and that's the lowest in our nations history.  Ed, the question should be will WE accomplish anything ?  91% of Americans disapprove of the job those fat, narcissistic, greedy slobs are doing, yet we re-elected 92% of the incumbents.  Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.  That's why I'm doing what I'm doing, and I'm getting some good support.  I just got an e-mail from a supporter that said .. "Jim, PLEASE!  KICK THEIR ASS!"   tio which I replied, "I AM!   PILE ON!!   Ed, Washington is a mere reflection of our expectations.  I'm going to change Washington because I'm going to change what you and the fine people comenting here expect.  Watch me my brother.

   ahorseback, We are having a societal melt- down. Truth is this happens to all Great Empires. The people have become complacent, they are consumed by consumption, our infrastructure decays along with our morals and standards, the boob tube pumps propaganda to ensure we keep upgrading and spending, more is better, bigger is better, the news programs are all slanted to opinion, prices rise, pay shrinks, jobs move away, the middle pays for the bottms wefare because they have given up fighting for jobs that will be given to the "slave" class of illegal immigrants and the employess of chinese sweat shops, the middle pays for the top tier elites who grow ever bigger shaping legislation to the betterment of themselves that in no way reflects democracy, liberty, or freedom for all...
   
   We have a tall order to inform, educate, petition, march...Will America stand up or will she fall as the Empires of old?

      I was trying to think of a "country" that bounced back after such decay. England and Germany -- but they adopted new forms of government, in fact looking more like the USA.
      I wonder what form our new government will look like.

         IMHO, We need to split up the media monoplies, we need to improve our educational system that inspires free and creative thinking, we need an understandable tax structure that does not starve a government from the improvemnets needed in our infrastructure, etc. We need to make Big Business get back in line and out of Washington, Lobbyist need to be a thing of the past and Congress needs to operate as it was designed too, serve your term, get paid for said term, go home and back to work; off the the government dole. I read a great idea about this on a forum using statements from Warren Buffet, I read an amazing hub by crazyteacher that elimimnates the use for wefare...There are many ideas that make sense, that catapult us into a future...I believe POTUS has great ideas, and leadership but can't budge our Country with a stagnant out-dated Congress who lines their pockets with lobbyists funds to the detriment of the American people...Wow, I could just go on and on...

            You bring up a lot of good points, Tammy. I am also worried it will be 4 more years of nothing useful getting done. People need to get more involved at the local levels of politics, so we don't send people to Washington to represent us if they are not presenting our views and needs there. Many states have had the same Congresspeople and House Reps for years, and I bet if you ask any person on the street, they probably don't know who represents them.
            
            My husband and I were into politics on the local, town level for about five years, and it was so ugly and backstabbing, we were really shocked. I can only imagine what that's like magnified so many times by the time people get to Washington.
            
            I think the R's have to accept the demographics are changing, that Obama has to learn to compromise or how to be a better consensus builder. He really didn't have the experience when he was elected the first time, so I hope he learned from it. And if Congress refuses to do anything except block any efforts at change, they should not be paid. They don't work much anyway, and have the best health benefits in the country. We would get fired from our jobs if we acted like them.
            
            Our young people are not getting good educations either, they are way behind in math, science, and logic. But we pay a fortune to send them to college and are weighed down in debt. I think we need more of them learning the trades again, I know so many college educated young people who can't find jobs in their fields.

               Jean, All good points. If you haven't seen the thread GA posted about Warren Buffett please take a peak, I think this is a great way to shake the cob webs out of Congress and take the huge 18% portion of spending out of the pie chart, as well as imrove the Social Security system.
               
               The bottom line is education. I will brag a little on our local schools, after freshman year you meet with advisors and pick a course suited to your capabilities, trade being one of the choices. Not all kids are cut out for college, but can still find work that pays well, such as HVAC certificates, welding, pipefitting, etc.

   Washington is devoid of leadership from top to bottom. Anyone there capable of providing leadership is labeled as an "extremeist" because they demand that we get on a track which calls for us to live within our means.  The likes of Barack Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell, and John Boehner played stupid, childish games with the future of this nation goes beyond the pale.  They have all failed at their oath of office and should, if Congress was functional, be impeached for that failure.  We will never again have a government which functions Constitutionally and fiscally until we get some real leadership in high places in the government.  By then, it may well be too late. ~WB

   Will congress ever again accomplish something?  Yes, of course.  I fully expect it to.
   
   It will hasten the demise of the country.  It will continue to take from the "rich" and will expand the give to the "poor" idea.  It will continue and accelerate the number of politicians "earning" massive fortunes from being in power.  It will continue to destroy our infrastructure - the infrastructure that supports and feeds us all.  It will demand, and get, ever more power to control basic lifestyle of the people.  It will continue and grow the "dumbing down" of America as well as expanding the reliance of the people on congress to provide basic and daily needs.
   
   All of this, it will do.
