I'm curious how many people here suffer from anxiety problems, what their experiences have been, and what they have found helpful in their quest to manage it.

My anxiety turned into post traumatic stress disorder about six yearas ago after I was robbed at my store at gunpoint. Two men, ten minutes til closing, everything happened very fast. I was knocked down, cursed out, repeatedly threatened. I quit that job, took a year off to get my nerves back together. Certain situations sometimes cause me to get really jumpy and nervous and I'll start coughing and find it hard to breathe. I went to the doctor for meds and I only take it when
feel an anxiety attack starting. Angie 44

I thought I had anxiety disorder and was suffering from ADD.  I couldn't focus on one thing and my thoughts kept me up nights.  I am being treated for ADD and am much happier.  My thoughts are manageable and I do not worry all the time anymore.

when I was studding in standard 9th and higher , I experienced anxiety. Often I realized that I was suffering from tension and temper so I consulted doctor. he told me to drink more and more water so that to increase water level in body and control anger. and It helped me a lot to decrease anxiety.

Yes, I use to suffer, and on occasion will have a thought, creep up on me. But now I just tell myself gently inwardly, fear nothing, my thoughts don't mean anything and I am never worried, anxious for the reasons that I think I am. Hopefully this is helpful. Let me know if you try it, and the results you get.

I started typing in an answer but quickly realized the answer was a full Hub.  I'll have it done and published by sometime tomorrow evening (the 4th of July, Independence Day, Saturday, 2009) under the title "How To Relieve Anxiety".  Please do check in when you can to read it.  I'll do my best to remember to stop by this forum to let you know when it's ready,  but I've been known to forget important things every now and then, so....

OK.  The Hub "How To Reduce Anxiety" is up and running.  Hope it gives you at least a bit of food for thought.

Angie, what you went through would make it tough for a LOT of people.  Sounds like the PTSD has maybe elevated your attacks beyond the realm of anxiety and into the arena of full fledged panic attacks.  I've seen a number of those hit my wife, and they are NO fun.

My old job was very stressful. It was insane, especially for someone my age. It may sound very silly, but if I'm watching a tv show or out in public and hear any of the same blackberry ringtones that I used during that time-frame, I freeze and feel very stressed. My phone was constantly going off and it was a very demanding job. I got rid of the b-berry after my job ended. Felt weird without it so I bought a new one. I can't use any of the same ringtones. I can't bear hearing them.

I also occasionally get panic attacks (not because of that but due to other things from my past). I usually try to focus on something positive or turn on some favorite music. I used to smoke, but I found smoking made my anxiety worse. A lot of anxiety was alleviated once I didn't have all sorts of nicotine and thousands of other chemicals rushing through my bloodstream.

Nothing soothes anxiety like a healthy dose of SPAM.

I suffered from anxiety (and still do sometimes) mostly last year. It was tough to deal with but I found ways to overcome it. I found that writing helps to express yourself and get rid of all the bad emotion. Any form of cardiovascular exercise is great for the mind. Try getting into meditation. If I had the time I would.  =]
