Site copying hubs about hotels

   Yet another copier out there. I just found my latest hub copied at myfirstbloghotel dot blogspot dot co dot uk. Word for word copy with 15 of my photos in the sculpture gardens (with innerspin as the source,) They have dated it 18th June, which was before I published my hub, indeed before I'd visited the hotel! It must have been stolen quickly because I've changed the order of the pics since.
   
   I'm sure other hubs are on the site because one has H.O.W. in the title and mentions billybuc. I'm filing a complaint, and urge anyone who has written about hotels to check their work.

      And the next thing will be Hub Pages will ding you for using copied content.  It happened to me and my hub was published long before someone copied the entire hub and published it on their blog.
      You do need to report this to Hub Pages ASAP to protect yourself.

      Yes, one of my H.O.W. hubs, which is actually about the homeless is on this list, but the title does have the word Hotel in it!  Plus I did link billybuc's H.O.W. hubs too.

      Go get 'em Judi Bee! Seriously, this is annoying. I was looking up images for the sculpture gardens we visited, and came across my own photos. One was linked to my hub but the others linked to the copier. I checked some text but it didn't bring up the copy initially.

      Filling DMCA complaints is the right thing to do. Blogger (i.e., Google) will react soon and take down the content, particularly if several of you file a complaint against this one page. All you can really do in these situations is file a DMCA complaint and hope that it gets taken down. Luckily, this is Blogger and not some random site that will ignore the DMCA. Also, search engines are aware of publication dates so this should have no impact on your traffic or rankings.

      Looks to me like they ran a search on HP for hubs with "hotel" in the title.  The hubs aren't necessarily about a hotel at all, but every title seems to have the word "hotel" in it.

   Yowzah, that's some list.
   This is too many from one site (HP) to be a random scraper. Many of these are historical/informational, versus just hotel/travel destinations. Looks like the entire hub was copied, which means someone took a lot of time to add them. This looks more like a ghost Hubber trying to spin content using a specific vertical.

      jacharless, okay, you've lost me on the specific vertical. I do think someone's targeted the word "hotel," my hub is in the art and design category as it's about the sculpture garden rather than the hotel itself. Are you saying you think a hubber has done this? That would be a double kick in the teeth.

         I do. In fact the vertical itself would not be an issue (meaning just hotels) if the other titles on that list did not contain historical references or 'stories' about haunted hotels and such. Add the complete volume of verbiage into the mix and without a doubt all roads point to a ghost-Hubber or possibly a content writer very familiar with this platform. Lastly, them hiding behind the BlogSpot sub-domain as not to be found out on a DNS look-up screams someone who knows what they're doing, has done this before and has learned how to ghost. Most Scrapers/Content marketers are naive and often automated robots from n00b programmers...

   It is good that you are following through and filing the complaint. Yes, it takes a lot of time to file the complaints, but Google looks at them. I probably have 50+ article complaints with a Google response that took them off or closed a site down. If you ignore it, it will continue. Over a particular time period I have noticed there can be 5 or 6 sites copying word for word your article at the same time! One site that took an article I wrote originated in a foreign country and I notice that the URL now is defunct, but those folks just open another, I suspect.  Somebody said that vigilance is the price we pay for freedom (I think?). If you throw up your hands, they will eat your lunch.
   I have said this before, "If your article has been stolen, take solace in the fact that it must be a good article and continue to fill out the forms!"

   I see one of my hubs on here too!  This is terrible.  I do not have any choice but to file a DMCA complaint!  I have never done such.  Another hubber told me of this about they are copying hubs with the word Hotel in them for whatever reason.  And sure enough there it is.  Thanks Judi Bee!

   I saw my title in your long list of ones stolen regarding Mackinac Island and the Grand Hotel.  I checked that and several others that I have written and am pleased that mine show up first in Google.  So perhaps this site has already been taken down because of your alertness and all those who filed DMCA reports.  Thanks for the "heads up."

      Peggy W, the site's still up, I only filed a complaint yesterday. I'm guessing it's pretty new. Hopefully as people start complaining, it'll get taken down. Sorry to hear you're also affected.
      
      wilderness, that's what struck me as well, they've targeted "hotel" and not really read the hubs. They just want words on a page.

      What a nightmare. I just filed a second DMCA, then realised Google had 'lost' my first DMCA for his other site (it wasn't listed on my 'Removal Dashboard on Google) so I have had to file another DMCA for the first site too now.

    Filed my second DMCA too.  In addition to this second site, I found another copy of one of the hubs on a file sharing site too (didn't recognise any other hubs).  The guy had changed a few words, but it was my hub (minus images), with an open invitation to download a PDF copy.  Think I've spent more time chasing copies of these hubs than I actually spent writing them.

    Judi Bee, I don't know where you're finding all this, but well done and thank you. I'm not even pulling these last two up with a quote on Google. The good news is I can now file a DMCA during an ad break on TV. Practice makes perfect!
    Hard to credit this person has so far put four copies on BlogSpot . Let's hope they give up soon.

    Just a little more confusion, but having flagged the next two since my last two earlier, I notice on my 'Removals Dashboard' that the first two are now showing under the 'Rejected URLs' list. When I click on the date of the request I made it says they have been forwarded to the appropriate team for review and I will be notified separately quote : "URL forwarded to appropriate product team for further review. You will receive separate notice after review." To me this info contradicts the fact they are showing as 'Rejected URLs', which in itself infers they are disputing my DMCA complaint and saying it has been refused!
    
    Anyone else had any experience of this as in the past I don't recall my DMCAs ever showing as rejected before I got a notification from Google directly confirming copies had been removed? Can someone else take a look at theirs and see if they are getting the same message?
    
    Edit, now all four are showing as 'Rejected URLs". Can someone post the link they are using to file their DMCAs. or at least tell me if what I am seeing is normal prior to the content being removed please?

       My DMCA reports aren't showing up either. 
       
       I have received an acknowledgement email after filing the first, but none since.  Nothing showing in my removals dashboard or via a transparency report.  Hopefully it's just a time lag.

             The one that you have listed second - ie the usual Google DMCA one, with "Blogger/Blogspot" selected.  I've never had a problem before - what with this and the traffic "flux" I'm wondering if anyone is actually still working at Google...

                Yep, that's what I used the second time too. Hope it works. Traffic is appalling today, and I am down by about 600 views to a normal Tuesday's figures. At this rate it is hardly worth continuing here.

    Just decided to check the status of my DMCA after Misty's posts - nothing there at all! So decided to search for the offending page again using an extract from my hub..
    
    Without quotes ("") for a phrase from my hub the COPY turns up first in the search results with no sign of my hub on the first couple of pages!!!!!!! No I was not signed into google etc.. How can google be promoting a copy over the original???
    
    (Not that I get a lot of direct google traffic when people search for hotels as the first pages are dominated by the big sites!)

       I am concerned by this too, and have had no luck yet either here or elsewhere in finding out why my requests have either not been registered at all, or show as 'rejected URLs' in Webmaster Tools. Not sure where I can go with this now!

             I've also just noticed that they removed two of my copied hubs, but not the third - it's not mentioned in the email and it's still up.  Again, I'll leave it a day or two and then try to sort it out.
             
             The thief is still busy, as you say - another copied hub put up yesterday.

                Are you filing with the site owner or the host?
                
                I would be very surprised to find an ethical host that would require only that single pages be removed, particularly if there are multiple claims from the same person (you).  Rather I would expect the entire site to disappear.

                      I checked that earlier, but forgot it.  Pretty sad statement it makes about Google, though, when other hosts recognize they have a thief in their midst and simply close the site entirely.  All but google, who professes to be "concerned" about duplicates and theft.

          Serves me right for not reading the whole thread! I just thought it was the first one. They stole articles of mine too, but no loss to me as mine have not had any traffic for the longest time (although they were front page of Google when first published).
          
          Still, it goes to show that Google do listen to complaints, even if they seem to take no action if no complaints are received.
