There seems to be a dilemma in my writing.  I want to make a hub detailing five different web shows or artists that deserve more attention.  Considering HubPages' anti-promotion stance, would this hub's very premise even be allowed?

You are allow to promote things just because you like them.  Unless any of those people are paying you a kick back, go for it.

      Hi Bryan Mangan,

You are certainly allowed (and encouraged) to write about the things you love. Just be sure your Hubs don't include overly-promotional links and that your Hub is very informative and useful to readers.

So I should be fine if I have just one or two links each, then?

The main problems with promotional hubs is that so many people try to  write advertising hubs for their own website or product. This makes hubpages look like an enhanced craigslist where people can get free advertising.
Promoting something you use or you know will help others is different.

But they help others in about the same way my own writing does.

To go off-topic a little bit...

I can't speak for others; but for me, hub ideas are hard to come by. If it was me, I'd make those 5 ideas into 5 hubs, instead of 1. smile

Then they wouldn't be long enough.

From what I understand, you can't post more than two links to any one website. At least that's what I've gotten a message about when attempting to publish a hub with more than two links to the same site. I think if you overdo it with links, you'll get a message letting you know. So I wouldn't worry too much.

As Christy rightly pointed out, it is the content that rules the roost here. Just make sure that the hub has links that are totally relevant to the users. Otherwise, it will get a hit from the HP gods!
