Government shutdown

   What does government shutdown really mean and how does it impact you/me?  Every time I turn on the news all I hear is reporters talking about the possibility of a government shutdown but I don't know how to feel because I totally ignorant on the subject. I would greatly appreciate feedback. Thank you

      According to the News,  there've been several government shutdowns,  including during Reagan's Presidency,  and yet the world didn't end.   I'm not sure how long the shutdowns lasted, but at any rate, it's not a dire thing like we've been warned about.   Unless maybe Obama owes something to China or something that we don't know about!   In which case, he's responsible for that himself.
      Obama's Administration are propagandists and bullies---------they try to spread fear into people just so they can get their way.

      The shutdown may have a deleterious effect on the Republican Party.  According to a new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, the public blames the GOP by 53%-31%.  That's a bigger margin than during the last shutdown that led to Clinton's re-election.

   More than seven out of ten Americans oppose the shutdown to try to defund the ACA, according to a new poll reported by Bloomberg, Oct. 1.

      The last shutdown in 1995 lasted 21 days.  Economists said it had a slowing effect on the economy. 
      
      If the GOP forces a default on debt later this month, the impact on the economy could be far more serious.  BTW, nearly two out of three Americans oppose a default to stop the ACA, according to the same poll, Bloomberg reports.

   It seems like Washington power brokers have moved beyond killing ObamaCare as a chip in this card game. Now, to raise the US borrowing limit and pass a budget, many are demanding Social Security and Medicare cuts.
   
   It almost is as if people begrudge other people getting money from the government because it might take away from what they get from the federal government.

      Or, just possibly, because it means they will have to provide more in taxes than they already have.  Very few that pay taxes actually receive anything tangible from the government.

      The Rs have lost almost every demographic except old white people.  With their pivot from defunding Obamacare (remember when that was the reason for the shutdown?) to cutting Social Security and Medicare, they're working on losing that one, too.  Brilliant strategy for alienating pretty much everyone.

         Now Boehner admits "We didn't win" in the showdown with Obama.  But GOP support in the polls reached a new low.  Well done, Mr. Speaker!
