Why does HP not disclose? Let us form a union.

Most companies that run a site that is under the 1,000 mark on ranking post most data. HP although funded by a venture capitalist group, who has a director in HP does not.

What kind of corporate structure and stability does HP have if the are not publicly traded? Why a Delaware corp DBA in California.

This smells of a prospect of "going public".  Should writers have a priority in stock? Nora and the Edmunson family should be forthcoming. IPO's should benefit the construct of the brick and mortar which in this case is the content --- yours.

Does this mean a thing to you. Or do you just say "I am a writer and not a businessperson".  In that case let us form a union now!

Tax rate in California is so high few businesses incorporate here. You night be surprised at the companies that are Cali through and through incorporated in Delaware. It is very common.

Why should HP make a public offering if doesn't need operating capital?  It's a privately held corporation and hasn't offered you stock.  And it doesn't have to.  Nor does it have to make financials publicly available.

Irrelevant.  Inquiring minds wish to know all, even if they wouldn't know what it means anyway.  Nosy, in other words.

Want to know what?  They don't offer stock and they aren't going to any time soon.

No, no.  Want to know how much money is involved, to the penny.  Who the investors are, and how much comes from each one.  How much each employee or owner gets, including investors.  What the budget is each year, and exactly where the money goes.  How much each hubber is paid, and which ones are favored with high scores or extra goodies (especially this one - it's really important!).  What the programming for HP is, with each line published for public consumption.

Inquiring minds want to know everything, and especially stuff about individual hubbers.  Most important! big_smile

              1. All of that information changes so quickly. There's no way they could share that regularly enough to keep it relevant.
              2. I don't want people knowing which of my hubs are bringing in the big traffic, or what I make. Trade secrets.
              3. Lower quality writers that don't bring in traffic, or don't produce quality pieces, would get butt hurt that they aren't paid as much.

                You are so right here.

The union concept is a total bust. But it is still fun to think about.
                Personally I like my privacy.

I don't see any strong language at all, just a statement of fact.  No more vehement than saying a dog is not a donkey.

It's been common knowledge for many years now that HubPages is a co-company (a sort of live lab, if you will) with YieldBuild.

    http://yieldbuild.com/pages/team

That's where the real money's being made.

Eric, in order to properly form a union and to correct your views you must first delete your account then go into a corner with a tissue. LOL just kidding. There is not much to be done. Just keep writing and you never know, some "people" in a cubicle somewhere may just think that what you do is good enough to publish. Keep the faith buddy. Your doing great.

          So you busted me!

To form a union would mean that we are employees of HP. In that case we would be entitled to an employee share program if they went public. I consider myself a supplier to HP and not entitled to their stock, unless they are in debt and cannot pay me for what I have supplied.

Ericdierkerposted 11 years agoin reply to this

I did not know that only employees can form a union. Interesting. So in order to be in the screen writers union you have to be employed?

      1. profile image0
JRoberts11posted 11 years agoin reply to this

no, you must be a screen writer though, and likely a member of the screen writers guild. In order to form a union on HP you would first need to form a HubPages writers guild. Then form a union under that. We are like, gitachud stated suppliers. We add content to a pre existing site. We already earn a share if we take part. All this talk of forming a union is goofy anyway. It is a discussion much like most now that is pointless and serves no end result. No union will make its appearance out of this, and no earnings increase will happen. The moderators will just get more and more nervous till they close this thread. Anarchy is unwelcome, no matter the context.

So you want us to dish-out money for union fees when many of us don't even make payout every month? If this site payed us like regular employees, there may be merit to your statement, but they don't. This site is what we, as writers, make it. A lot of us just write for fun. If you really want a union, maybe Hubpages is not the best place for you.  Great idea there...

Sorry I did not intend this as an invitation to join something.

Maybe we could charge people in jokes rather than money?

You plan to make a union composed of one person? Wow, you will definitely get far with that. Perhaps you should research a bit better on how to get people to join a union, before you put out such invitations. I dont think your union is going to get far. No one seems to want to join.

That is not the half of it, I used to work for myself, now I work for my son and wife. I do not think I would get far with a strike. The only union I have been anywhere closely involved with is Matrimony. I did once stand on a corner at the union of 1st and Ash streets.
Last night when I wrote this I started laughing and put in the line about union. My son wanted to know what I was about. I told him. He started laughing about dad laughing about an onion. Go figure.

Nor did I take it as such. I am merely pointing out the fact that a union on Hubpages is rather a poor argument. We are writers, not manufacturing workers who need protection from low wages and harsh working conditions. On Hubpages, if you want a higher wage, then you work for it. No need for a union unless we all suddenly start making pennies a day. Hubpages is about a community of witters, I really can't understand why you keep posting forum topics that poke fun at Hubpages.
Other then the fact that you are probably just trying to gain followers and some attention

Maybe it's a troll operating under another name to stir up trouble as they have no life?

Regarding unions, well there is a reason why some people are paid more than others. It pertains to people being able to write properly with reader engagement...and improve their skills.

Some wannabe wants to form a Union? Who will be in charge of that union? You? Some guy who has less followers than I have? I don't think so.

Check out Hub Pages and Yieldbuild properly before you blow off on some pointless rant. Read a book. Read the Wall Street Journal for that matter. Learn about your subject and how to step it right before you dance off into a polka, and crash into a crowd of people.

This is a forum, and forums work best when those on the forum know what the hell they are talking about.

Read the fine print. (That's what unions are supposed to be good at...)

    Tsk tsk tsk, Eric.

Stay cheeky for it almost sounds like you are serious. I like though, it is very edgy. Do you know how to dance the polka -- I do. (we try not to use swearing here -- hell is close)
      I like your spunkiness.
But an attack here is out of order if you look to the thread and position posted. Form a union was not meant literally, a good writer such as you should and seen the almost irony, sarcasm and goofiness rolled into one.
Especially someone who claims to be "cheeky"
