Is there a way to block the ability to Copy articles on Hubpages? Some websites have this, so that when anyone tries to left-click their mouse to Copy, the process is blocked somehow.
The reason I ask is because I've had to report one website for the second time in little over a week for illegally using some of my articles. Kudos to the domain host, as on the first occasion the offending article was deleted swiftly. Here's hoping they're as quick with my second complaint, made a few minutes ago.
It's not difficult to keep the thieves from copying your work - don't publish.
Other than that, impossible. Various schemes can be used to prevent little susie from copying for her 6th grade class report; preventing a professional thief from skimming your work isn't so simple. No one to date has found a way.
(Go to those sites you mentioned and take a screen shot. Or use the snipping tool in windows. Put it through some reader software and presto! A new document!)
The inverse of that would be to find a way to prevent people from posting copied content on this site. I cannot imagine the number of hours & dollars HP has to invest to put articles through the QAP or to track down and research hubs that are reported as being duplicate content. There's at least one 'writer' here whose profile clearly shows a lack of skills, and who has published several dozen 'hubs' that appear to be taken from textbooks and/or online lectures of college courses in which they're enrolled.
I wouldn't think HP researches hubs that reported to be duplicates. If the "report" was a DMCA it is given to the hubber; only if that hubber claims differently does HP have to do any research.
As Wilderness mentioned, the reality is that if content can be read by a browser, then it can be copied. Some sites do disable right click menus, but that mainly just annoys people who want to copy passages for themselves as all but the least sophisticated article thieves know that all you need to do is view the source for a page and you bypass the right click limitation.
This question has been asked several times before. However, even if the right click was disabled, the content can be copied by viewing the 'page source' and copying from there.
Also, most auto-blogs, which copy articles en-masse, tend to automatically import data from the RSS feeds.
Last year I found one of my Hubs copied on various websites. It was so time consuming to report it to the various site owners and Google that afterwards I decided to make a text capsule for mentioning Copyright, and in it I advise the URL of the page itself (Creating a hyperlink back to it) and saying it can be shared using the URL but not copy/paste due to copyright. This was for a lengthy Hub, so I decided to put it right in the middle. It's not ideal, but it solved the problem with that particular page!

There is so much of this going on that it may not be worthwhile to mention. Since I know that this site is not cooperative, I sent my DMCA complaint to Google. My hub is copied word for word with all the lovely photographs and even a link to another similar hub. It probably is my best hub with lots...

Hi everyone, I had this one suggestion to prevent stolen hubs, how about making hubs cannot be copied by restricting selection using javascript or any script? This is kind a simple script. Or give the authors the ability to add this script to their hubs?Or when someone is copying a hub, a script...

Usually I find a couple pieces of stolen article copy on different sites. Today, it's more than enough to make me comment here. HP notifies us, adds the complaint link, and the complaint file cut-paste copy but little else to build a brick wall against content thieves. For every click...

I've gone to many sites where the second you try to highlight text and then right click you get a little error pop up that says, "Sorry this function is disabled"... why do they do that? To keep people from copying their text (or other content) and pasting it somewhere else as their...

I decided to see how easy it was to prevent content from being copied. I did a quick search and found sites with codes to copy and paste onto your site. It took me 15 minutes to do one of my sites. Now neither my content or photos can be copied. I am not computer saavy, so...
