Is it just me or have hubpages adsense ads got really bad this last few weeks. I know for a fact on at least 10 hubs my keywords and tags are really targetted but I am getting ads for Asian Singles and a lot of Debt ads plus other unrelated stuff.
Anyone else noticed this or is it just me ?
It's the default ads for the site (based on what is viewed on the site as a whole), that are served up to hubs that don't get traffic. As soon as your hubs get traffic, the ads should revert to stuff relevant for your hub.
As I said on another thread, make sure you visit your own hubs at least once a day - that way, visitors from the search engines in the following 24 hours will get relevant ads.
girly_girl09 - I thought all the ads on hubpages were Google - they've been given permission to have five ad blocks on each hub. Where did you get the info about Hubpages using MSN ads? I thought MSN only sold ads for their own search engines and didn't have outside publishers?
HubPages uses YieldBuild for their share of their impressions. YieldBuild rotates text ads from different advertising companies including MSN, Google, etc. (whatever companies HP has accounts with) for the best earning results.
We only have Adsense ads for our share of the impressions.
I'm getting handyman ads in poems about love haha go figure
I've noticed it on some other peoples hubs; older ones, that should have complimentary ads.
i just checked mine to see but no ads were showing up weird.
My calorie one had great ads to start with then over the last week the ads changed, weird.
As long as they're still making money I'm not bothered about unrelated ads. You'll probably be getting more ads unrelated to your keywords since google started factoring in peoples browsing habits as well as the page content a month or so ago, I don't know about more recently than that.
Well I deff ain't been browsing Asian Singles lol
Can't say I have noticed. However, I believe someone from Hubpages previously mentioned that if a page isn't viewed often enough Google don't get a chance to scan the page and so serve default ads. No idea if what I have said relates to you or if what I said was correct! If it isn't, I apologise in advance!
Yes, definitely could be another reason. I remember reading a staff member's post on this. It is somewhere in the forums. I have to run off to an appointment, so I don't have time to find it...will look when I get back if someone else hasn't found it already.
Some of the 'nonsense' ads are not by google, rather by MSN. These don't apply to us, they are HubPages chosen ad impressions. I see weird, non-related ones at times, but they always have "Sponsored Links" instead of Google Ads. Usually about teeth whitening, weight loss, etc. that are totally irrelevant to the content. I don't worry about it because those are HubPages' ads...
Another reason you could be seeing weird, non relevant ads (that are sponsored by Google) could be related to your keyword density being off or your CTR being completely shot and a few other factors have lead to your being smart priced. You could begin to remedy this by turning down or off the ads on non-commercial hubs that rarely make any money, yet get high traffic. If you get 1,000 views on a hub and only 1 click, I'd personally turn down the ad level to low to reduce the number of impressions. (Of course you can only do this on non-commercial hubs)
Chances are, though, the "weird" ads you're seeing are hubpages impressions which are not Google ads. They do not affect our earnings.
You're not imagining things. During holiday times (such as the States' July 4th Independence Day holiday that just happened), many AdSense advertisers pause their campaigns as they go on vacation or anticipate lower conversions. This means that the ads get less competitive and winning ad bids get lower. When ad bids get lower, lower-paying and irrelevant ads may show up more frequently.
Once all the advertisers come back online, ads tend to get relevant and higher-paying again.
The time period generally extends from a week before the holiday to a week after, since people take their vacations flanking either side of the holiday.
This isn't a hard-and-fast rule, and doesn't explain everything, but it's one force that's in play...
Hey cheers everyone for their replies, and BristolBoy no need to apologise mate, I appreciate your views as you know what you are doing. Again cheers guys !
It could easily be that the demand for ads is poor. I have been doing some of my own keyword research using the Google Adwords tool and noticed that one particular keyword was over 30% cheaper CPC from the beginning of last week to the end of last week. Interestingly, the price is back up somewhat today.
The hub pages sponsored ads are well targeted but mine ads are facing the same problem
So its not just me, its just June was my best month but July has died down wheras I expected it to get better but obviously if the ads are not relevant there will be no clicks, cheers mate.
Playing around a bit, I found that indeed, as Silver Rose wrote, ads do change by visiting/editing my own hubs and tend to match the contents better. Except for my hub on pricing, where I continue to get the sexy bikinis and the like, no matter what I do to it - maybe there is a hidden strategy to contrast the dry content?
If pricing services is your keyword, you have only included it in the title and the tag...not nearly enough for Google to be able to determine what your hub is about. It should be included about 1 time per every hundred words.
If you edit your article and increase the number of times you use "pricing services", I bet you'll find the ads to be more relevant. Also, there are only about 320 searches done each month for that phrase, so there simply may not be many ads for it.
Good luck!
Visiting or Editing? I thought we couldnt visit our hubs.
I did both, via "my account". It did not visibly harm the scores.
You are allowed to visit and edit your hubs as much as you like (though it's not necessary to visit each hub more than once a day, and to save time only bother for the hubs that show no visits in the last 24 hours), as long as you don't click ads. It's the clicking that's not allowed.

I'm having the hardest time trying to figure out Google Adsense. I applied for it, I was accepted, and it said ads will begin to appear in one of my hubs. In my account the earnings program is active and so is Google Adsense. The question is, do I have to do anything to add Google Adsense to my...

I must have missed an announcement, but I have noticed a section down the right side of my hubs (as well as other hubs) and along the bottom called "related ads". I haven't clicked on them as that is a no-no, but am curious what they bring up. There also seem to be a lot more...

Now don't get me wrong, I totally love writing on Hubpages and being a part of the Hubbing community, but I have lost a little heart recently when one hub of mine on "How to Improve Male Fertility" had the ads disabled based on automatic filters. This problem I reported in order to have...
